It's pretty cool that an unreasonable law like this is being changed. I always wondered how a switchblade was more dangerous than any other knife, including fixed blades, or even guns. But anyway...

This has got me thinking about getting one and would like suggestions. Some of my most used knives are the Spyderco Endura, BM 710, BM 550 Grip, and Manix 2.

My preference in blade length is over 3 inches, closer to 4. Preference in blade shape is something like the 550 Grip, or the Contego. It will be a knife I would carry any day like the knives I posted as most used, and my uses have never been anywhere near the limit of breaking a knife.

That being said, if I end up not liking it for carrying, I will probably just keep it and count it as another knife category fulfilled in my collection (kinda like my Kimura balisong which never gets used but fills the balisong category).

As for price, I would like to keep it strictly under $190. (Is this price cap unreasonable?)

Thanks in advance.

Hello fellow switchblade lovers. I am in the market for a 9" swing guard italian switchblade with a bayonet blade and "black" handle.

I have a few questions: 1) Does Frank B. make a 9" switch? I can't seem to find any by him.

2) If not, is AKC a good switchblade? This knife is a gift for a 74 yo lady that has wanted a 1950's swing guard switch ALL of her life, so quality is important.

3) Ag Campolino knives does make a 9" switch but EVERY website I have been to is "currently out of stock", does anyone know where I can get one or can someone point me in the right direction?

Thank you all for your help.

P.S. money isn't really a concern here but I'm trying to stay around the $100-@200 landscape.

Ok bear with me as I try and do this from memory.

Back in the olden, olden days of the late 70s I saw a very unique auto knife.

It looked like your typical Italian stiletto switchblade except this one was DEFINITELY an out the front. In my mind it seems like it was about a foot long but I was a kid so it could have been 9" and "seemed" larger.

It had a standard push button release rather than a sliding button as seen on modern OTF knives. And at the bottom it had a pull ring attached to a metal rod that "cocked" the knife.

My friend "claimed" it belonged to his grandfather and it dated to the 1930s along with other claims of mafia association. Of course lots of kids made lots of claims and Godfather I and II were pretty popular still.

That said, it definitely looked like something that could have been 40+ years old at the time. The blade was a dull grey steel, dark wood handles and the caps were a dark gray steel. The ring and the cocking rod were almost black.

Since seeing that single example I've kind of kept an eye out for a vintage knife of this type but have never seen another example. Anyone know what it is, where it was made or where one like it might be found?

Is there any actual advantage in deployment or use of a switchblade knife over a spring assisted knife such as the Benchmade Barrage series or numerous other examples?

In Nevada any switchblade over 2" blade length is illegal but there is no restriction on spring assisted folding knives even though to me they are almost equivalents from a functional deployment speed point of view. Spring assisted knives are available at every sporting goods store and Walmart in town and Nevada law specifically exempts them from the "automatic" knife category. I have one of the legal <2" blade length switchblade knives and cannot see any advantage over my Benchmade and Kershaw spring assisted opening knives.

Of course IMO most knife laws are dumb anyway. Criminal statutes make illegal use punishable and most knife crimes are probably committed using kitchen knives. Therefore making specific types of knives illegal is DUMB from any sensible standpoint.

Hello,

Very much a noob to OTF knives. My wife has been talking about getting one for a couple of years, no real reason just primarily because they don't want us to have one.... same reason she lined me up with a suppressor for my birthday last year....... anyway, we have our 20th anniversary coming up---and if she was going to off me she'd have done it by now with her 12 gauge--so I'd like to get her a nice (okay--nice in the $300-$500 range) OTF knife.

Saw some good suggestions for brands on this forum on other threads, so I'm pretty good there. But I'd like to have it engraved for our anniversary--and don't really want to trot an OTF knife into the local engraving place. In Texas they are legal to own for collectors but still........

Any of you guys on here sell them that could engrave it for me? Or know someone I can order it from personally engraved?

Thanks!
