Yesterday and today here in Saint Louis Missouri, employees at fast food chains went on strike. Among the restaurants were Hardee's, Wendy's, McDonalds, and Burger King. They were on strike stating that they need "a living wage" of $15.00 per hour. In my OPINION, this will only hurt the individual employee, and possibly the franchise itself. If someone flipping burgers makes 15.00 an hour, how much will that burger cost?...and hell no I don't want fries with that...they're too expensive.

The local news interviewed several of these people and they all had the entitlement attitude. I agree that the $7.50 or $8.00 these workers are making is not very much. However, fast food isn't a skilled trade. When you screw up my order 50% of the time, $15 per hour ain't happening! Fast food jobs are never meant to be permanent anyway. They are not a career, but a job for students and most times the lower educated.

I truly believe that my age group ( I'm 29) may be the last generation that doesn't want handouts. I may even be wrong about that. It just makes me sick to see the lack responsibility, coupled with terrible attitude. No one is forcing anyone to work anywhere. Fast food might be the only job you qualify for, but that is no ones fault but the individual persons.

The beauty of America is that you can always hit the reset button. You can wake up one day and say" I'm going back to school". Cliche as it sounds, you really can be anything you want to be. The fact also remains that hard work and education favor people in the long run.

Since getting into knives I've found that I like them a lot more than boxcutters and having a pocket knife is really handy when doing chores around the house and yard.

My buddy works in 2 Financial across from one of the new Towers. I was trying to capture the American flag waving on top of the World Trade but my camera phone wasn't up to the task. Thought you folks might like to see a closeup of the progress of the Freedom Tower. The giant crane in one of the pics is inside the Winter Garden, they had to change out some light bulbs and that's how they do it.

This place needs a good laugh, I though I would share the double entendre filled hilarity! At least someone in the judicial system has a good sense of humour! This was ruling was issued by Texas U.S. District Judge Fred Biery when a strip club requested for a preliminary injunction that would block enforcement of an ordinance requiring its dancers to wear bikini tops while entertaining. The club had asked that its employees be allowed to wear nipple-covering "pasties" instead.
Here is a quick excerpt from the report!

"The City of San Antonio ("City") wants exotic dancers employed by Plantiffs to wear larger pieces of fabric to cover more of the female breast. Thus, the age old question before the Court, now with constitutional implications, is: Does size matter?

Plaintiffs clothe themselves in the First Amendment seeking to provide cover against another alleged naked grab of unconstitutional power.

Plaintiffs, and by extension their customers, seek an erection of a constitutional wall separating themselves from the regulatory power of City government.

While the Court has not received amicus curiae briefs, the Court has been blessed with volunteers known in South Texas as 'curious amigos' to be inspectors general to perform on sight visits at the locations in question.

To bare, or not to bare, that is the question. While the Court finds these businesses to be nefarious magnets of mischief, the Court doubts several square inches of fabric will stanch the flow of violence and other secondary effects emanating from these businesses.

Accordingly, the request for preliminary injunction is DENIED.

Should the parties choose to string this case out to trial on the merits, the Court encourages reasonable discovery intercourse as they navigate the peaks and valleys of litigation, perhaps to reach a happy ending.

It is so ORDERED."

Here is the link to the entire 29 pages or so of the report, Enjoy! :

This is a fairly local story for me that I feel was grossly mishandled. The person involved had apparently been out target shooting the day before and left his shotgun inside his truck by accident (unloaded with no ammo in the vehicle). He only realized it when he arrived at school the next day. So the guy tries to do the right thing and get this gun off school property, but unfortunately the school found out about the gun before he was able to do so (made a phone call to get permission to leave school instead of skipping and was overheard). As a result, the guy was arrested and is now facing felony charges that could possibly lead to him spending some time in prison. He has also been permanently expelled from the school and will likely never be able to graduate at all because of something that was nothing more than an accident. This surely could have been handled a lot better than it was and likely didn't need to be taken this far.
SALT LAKE CITY -- A Samurai sword-wielding Mormon bishop helped a neighbor woman escape a Tuesday morning attack by a man who had been stalking her.

Kent Hendrix woke up Tuesday to his teenage son pounding on his bedroom door and telling him somebody was being mugged in front of their house. The 47-year-old father of six rushed out the door and grabbed the weapon closest to him - a 29-inch high carbon steel Samurai sword.

He came upon what he describes as a melee between a woman and a man. His son stayed inside to call 911 while he approached the man along with other neighbors who came to help. The martial arts instructor didn't hesitate in drawing the sword and yelling at him to get on the ground.

"His eyes got as big as saucers and he kind of gasped and jumped back," Hendrix said by phone Tuesday afternoon. "He's probably never had anyone draw a sword on him before."

The man ran down the street with the barefoot Hendrix and others in pursuit. Hendrix said he couldn't catch the man before he fled in his car, but he picked up ChapStick that the man dropped and memorized his license plate.

"I yelled at him, `I've got your DNA and I've got your license plate: You are so done,'" Hendrix said.

The suspect, 37-year-old Grant Eggersten, turned himself in to police an hour later, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. He was booked on charges of robbery, attempted burglary, trespassing and violation of a stalking injunction.

Hendrix, a pharmaceutical statistician, was one of several neighbors who came to the woman's aid after she began yelling for help, Hoyal said.

The incident began just after 7 a.m. when the 35-year-old woman came out of her front door, Hoyal said. Eggersten was hiding behind her carport and attacked her, knocking her to the ground, Hoyal said.

He took her keys and tried to open the door into her house, Hoyal said. That's when the woman ran down the street calling for help.

The woman did the right thing by fighting back and calling for help, Hoyal said. She suffered minor injuries.

Hendrix, a bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said it was the first time in 30 years of practicing martial arts that he's used the sword. He didn't swing it at the man, only showing him he had it.

He said he's proud of his 14-year-old son for alerting him and quickly calling 911. He said the family is still abuzz about the events.

"That kind of thing doesn't happen every day," Hendrix said. "Our neighborhood is a pretty quiet place."

A fourth-degree black belt in the Kishindo form of martial arts, Hendrix owns a collection of swords and weapons that he trains with, said his wife, Suzanne Hendrix. He has trained with the sword he used Tuesday for 20 years and keeps it by his bed.

"Some people have bats they go to," said Hendrix. "I have my sword."
