Since last August I have only made a couple knives for a few friends. Mainly because last summer I sold the house in Washington and in late August had the covered over added onto piece of crap trailer on my place in Montana ripped out and hauled to the dump. Since then I have put in my foundation, framed, roofed, sided, wired, plumbed, insulated, sheetrocked, mudded, floored and painted my new house. Did everything myself except install the furnace and built the cabinets. Had a little family help now and again. Now have most of the trim in, some cabinets set and the throne in place. Finish mounting the cabinets, kitchen and bathroom sink and move in. Just 1150 sq ft, but just me and the sweety. Then going to add on another 900sq ft to the shop. Just going to pour a floating slab and stick up 3 12' walls up against one end of the existing shop, truss it, roof it, use T111 for siding as per old shop and then wire and insulate and use OCB for the inside walls. That won't take that long. THEN, I'll be ready to start collecting my social security and MAKING KNIVES again. Got a big pile of steel, scales, and tools already. Going to be a retired gentleman knifemaker. Well, knifemaker maybe. Jim

I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. I am in the process of assembling tools and supplies to try and get my foot in the door to the wonderful world of knifemaking. , and all of the glorious perks that go along with it ;)

I have absolutely no experience with this kind of thing, but i am very eager to learn. I have been stalking around these parts for a couple months now, soaking up all the info i can handle, and taking note of good tips & tricks so i can do this right.

Im in the process of buying a grinder, so once that is here, i can get started! SO, I guess you guys will be seeing a lot more of me in the coming weeks.

I am just bragging a bit here...I was out in the shop, putting a final edge on one of my knives. As I was walking out, a mosquito flew in front of me and just hovered there for a bit. I just flicked my wrist at it and...wait for it... it fell to the ground in two pieces and I saw one of it's wings go fluttering to the ground! I try that occasionally with different flies, wasps, and other flying buggers that hang out around my shop, but I have never actually made contact before. I kinda feel like a ninja or something. It may never happen again, so I had to tell someone. I told my wife but she was not as impressed with her husband's impressive bug slaying skills as she should have been.

I thought I should give an introduction to those wondering who I am and what I do.

I'm a part time knife maker who lives not far from a town called Mylor, in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. I specialise in bushcraft type, Scandinavian ground stock removal knives, but also forge and grind knives with flat and convex grinds. I'd be happy to work with anyone over a custom design, knife restoration, sharpening, or any other knife related service. My email is jed.oliver.campbell@gmail.com, feel free to shoot me an email with any questions or queries.

In my spare time, when I'm not making knives, I play rugby, soccer, do some shooting/hunting, water sports, and ride my motorcycle.

Here are some pictures of my untidy shop and some past and present projects.

Thanks for reading.

Hey guys,
Figured id post a non knife project im starting and i was curious about what other people have on the go.
So apparently im pretty impressionable because since iv been watching that show Vikings on History iv decided I want an axe or hawk and then i figured id need shield as well.
So i spent a little time on cad and this is what iv come up with.

Its a little undersized from a historical viking era shield buuuut im about a foot and a half shorter than a viking.
the purple lines will be glued in dowels the green will be steel straps and the red is the arm sleeve and handle.
I absolutely realize this isnt historically accurate but its going to be fun.
Do you guys have any projects on the go?

A relative of mine sent us some old family pictures. I thought a couple of them were interesting enough to share here. If you all don't think so, then I guess I'm pretty bored...

All the guys in this picture are brothers, and the picture had to have been taken in the 1800's. The guy on the right in the back row is George S. Patton Sr., father of General George Patton of WW II fame. The guy on the left in front is my great, great, grandfather.

I'm not sure exactly how I'm related to this woman, but she is an ancestor. She's also J.P. Morgans first cousin.

Which is interesting, but nothing to be proud of, since J.P. was such a creep. The real reason I'm posting that picture is because I think she looks a bit like Mrs. Tweedy from Chicken Run:
