    Becker Gathering Autumn 2012

Some of my photos from the Autumn 2012 Becker Gathering. The ride up to Ethan's is always nice, but it's especially nice in the autumn! Since Gutsy and I don't live very far apart we chose to caravan.

Gutsy and his brother, rolled edge, talking to Ethan when we got there, some guy gave E a dinky little knife so he was checking it out.

The trail from E's house to the camp.

Some of the gang were already up at the camp

E and Bladeite rolling up with the grub

    Unloading toys.

Gutsy caused to get there later than we were supposed to...so we got there just in time for the cooking to begin. Captain A got to tear into the onions with the cooking knives. I think Jordan got garlic duty. You may notice a theme here of other people working and Ark...well...being Ark.

    Some random shots from camp

E got the pork loin browning for the stew

    Caramelizing the onions

For a bit I was starting to suspect that Derick may have a drinking problem...as it turned out he may or may not...

Vik having fun with his forge

You'll notice people don't mind letting E work his ass off...and then not even let him have a rest without bugging him...

Now that all the hard work was done the rest of the gang waits to eat.

Once it got dark Bladite went looking for scorpions,

Soon two large pots of stew were done, and everyone settled in for a noisy headlamp-lit dinner...and yelling at me about the occasional flash...

After dinner we all just sat around, stood around, and wandered around talking and cutting up...then sometime in the middle of the night it was time to get some sleep.

Soon came the morning, and with it a light rain and a chill in the air. Soon various breakfasts were under way, and some people were liking the fire. The view I woke to was nice and colorful.

Average Iowa Guy had shown up sometime while I was still asleep...I didn't wake up till about 8:30...and being still somewhat sleepy I thought he may be going to opt for a Korean style breakfast...as it turned out that wasn't the case.

After breakfast we headed down to Ethan's shop for discussions on preparedness and first aid in the bush. Some of us listened...others took advantage of the distraction and nosed through drawers...then we just played around in the shop a while.

I think somebody may be a little delusional...

    A little rope cutting.

    Showing up fashionably late...

    Ethan getting the chili on

Shooting irons. No idea what Derek said or did...but that trajectory isn't looking good for him. Some interesting concepts, but I think Ark even noticed a fly in the ointment. To clarify things, Captain A is not pointing the pistol at Derek, she was turning the gun over in her hand to check out the BK13 bayonet from all angles and in that one shot there was the illusion of it being pointed at him.

    Chili is getting there

    Hangin' out

    The chopping competition

The chili is done, and man was it awesome!

After full stomachs of chili and various beverages Gutsy got the fire back to life and we just hung out and talked for a while, then I had to go.

It was a blast and I had a great time. I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Great pictures, mistwalker (Guyon, too). I'm envious. I saw chopping pictures, guns, food and booze, and a first aid workshop. Was there any other skills workshops? I know that Derrick was considering doing one on knots.

Thanks man, it was a great time. The weather was great while I was there...but I heard it turned bad right after I left Saturday night.

Thanks Doc. I was only there Friday and Saturday so there may have been some other workshops I missed.

Thanks Vik. It was great staying longer and getting to talk more this time around. Maybe by spring I'll be past the whole being gone for months thing and Lisa will be ok with me being gone a couple more days...

Hey Mist, glad to see that Nikon hanging around your neck isn't just a fancy necklace! You definitely captured the spirit of the gathering. Thank you for that and the great company. It was a pleasure meeting you and finally getting a chance to pick your brain a bit. That Tibo is pretty sweet too, I expect to see plenty being used soon.

Hey Doc, I never got around to doing it, and this one was very, very unstructured as it unfolded. Knots will have to wait until next time.

Erik, the lid to your dutch oven is hanging from the shelter at the campsite. We will have to have either the boss or Moose send it your way unless you get that direction again sometime soon. I shoulda grabbed it and mailed it but apparently I am a jackass.

Great photos. One would think you were obsessed with food....

I have to say, though, this photo really raised the hair on the back of my neck. Not only aiming a firearm at a real live person, but with the finger on the trigger!

Her finger isn't on the trigger, and it wasn't really aimed at me. Not sure if it was the angle, or what, but it isn't what it looks like.
