CA age limit for carrying a knife?

I am 16 years old and I live in California, and I am wondering if there is a law preventing minors under "X" age from carrying a knife (public places; I'm not going to be stupid and bring it into a school or something). It sounds like there should be a law against a 16 year old carrying a 3 inch perfectly legal knife (aka, not a spring loaded weapon, sheathed weapon), but I am wondering if a law such as that exists, because if there isn't, I would love to have a knife on my person as a tool, since I find having a knife extremely useful...but then again, I don't want to walk around the mall with a knife in my pocket if it's illegal.

So, my question would be is there a law preventing minors (or people under "X" age) from carrying reasonable knives on their person outside of a place where they are not allowed, such as a school, courtroom, etc.? What are the restrictions of that law? If there isn't a law, are there restrictions on the knife, like blade length, how concealed it is, etc.?

    Thanks for any input.

wouldn't worry about the state, i would be worried about the city you live in. i would ask a leo for info on this, then follow up in the library and a district atterny. that would be the proper way.
the leo is the one that would arrest you the d.a. would be the one to convict you.
as far as i remember the government (fed) writes a law, the state can add to that law, the county can add to that law, then the city can add to that law. none of them may take away from that law.
if my memory is wrong i'm sure someone will let me know.

Interesting, makes sense that it could vary from county to county, city to city. I'll have to zip an email to a few lawyers I know, and see if they have any idea what the law states.

How would I go about finding this "Leo" person?

As I said in another rant.
    Most cops don't know squat.
Call the District attorney and ask them to fax or email you the written law(s)

in los angeles there is a municipal code making it a misdemeanor for a juvenile to be in possession of a weapon, including non-locking blade knives. it would be a felony to have a locking blade knife on a school campus. if it relates to your job, you may walk away with a warning.

There is no state laws reguarding carry of knives by minors. A two year old and carry a Emerson for all the state cares. For cities, pull up the cities web site and check the local municiple codes.

so the system goes Feds, States, Counties, Cities. got it.

but anyone know off hand what the max length for a fixed-blade knife in California, as far as the State cares, is?

i have looked all over the net to no avail. and have been tolled diffrent things by different people including Police (the ones here in my town are quite knowlageable for cops) DA's, knife makers, and other people.

i just want to know where in the CA law it says (or somehitng to this effect) "a fixed-blade knife in the open may not excede a length of 'x' in public areas."

i live in kern county, and i throughly doubt (but am not 100% sure) that any restrictions were made titer than CA's here. or in my city.

no length restriction, but must be carried suspended from a belt in a sheath in plain view.

private businesses can restrict carry of weapons (knives in this case). for example i cant go into the staples center with my pistol. im a cop and work right down the street. go figure.

the only fixed blade restriction per ca penal code is for concealed carry. seems even a double edged is ok as long as it is carried properly.

Would I get a warning if i had no clue and they didnt have the rules posted ?

they would probably just tell you to go put it in your car, since rules arent posted, at least at staples.

all the dealers i have been to in ca dont sell double edged knives to civilians, but i cant find any restriction.
