Thanks, guys. I'd already taken a couple pictures when the black kitten slowly stretched out his paw and placed it on the knife handle, just so. Serendipity!
And, not to worry, I'm very careful around the kittens. These are new foster babies, about four weeks old, and they were just barely waking (and moving in slow motion) when I took a few quick pictures. In any other circumstance, there's no way I'd have a blade open near them; even so I had my other hand poised just out of the frame ready to snatch knife or kitten(s) if needed. The kittens develop so quickly, I don't anticipate having (or seeking to create) another open-blade opportunity again with this litter.
