It's not a mirror image. One mark shows the woman's front. The other shows her backside.

    Keith,
I didn't look carefully, I was under the mistaken impression
of Ron Lake's mirror imaged logo.

Well I need to add one more! THANKS!

    All the best,

    If I may make a suggestion -

When taking a picture of a knife for posting on the Forum,
Set the camera to Macro mode and shoot the maker's logo too.

Then send it in to Harry Mathews or post it here....

    All the best,
    David Darom (ddd)

    Harry,

The idea of showing the mark with a section of the knife is
indeed important for the identification of the original maker.

Actually it makes the job easier for those submitting the marks
as all they have to do is snap a medium distance close-up of
a section of about 1 1/2" of the knife and every digital camera,
even the most simple, can do this well.

    All the best,
    David Darom (ddd)

I won't be able to check e-mail until after the first of Jan. Don't let that stop anyone from sending maker's marks in.

Thank you all for contributing to this. This is a great resource, not only for collectors but also for budding knifemakers looking for logo ideas. Would make a fantastic coffee-table book someday, I'm sure I'm not the first to think of that.

Making a ready for print coffee-table book, James, even if it demands extensive
research is much easier than finding a good and reliable distributor.
This is especially true for a subject like Custom Knifemaker's Marks....

An Internet pictorial data base will reach everyone everywhere and can be
    updated continuously forever!

I think the latter is the ultimate goal of Harry and the CKCA.....

I understand, I just can't help wanting to see a book... maybe an annual update... a man can dream, can't he?

James, all the great things we do begin as dreams.
Everything I did on modern custom knives began
    after 40 years of dreaming.....

Every book I do now in my new series on "Custom Knifemakers
of the World" includes a full page illustration with all of the
    knifemaker's marks and logos.....
If collector and knifemakers cooperate with Harry I am sure
that one day he may put it all together in a book.....

See here the two facing pages on Edmund Davidson's marks
from the book I did about him...

    All the best,
    David Darom (ddd)

David who is the maker of this knife? I'm not familiar with the mark. Thanks again for submitting all these marks.

Shoot! I don't know how I missed that. I looked straight at the description of his mark in Knives 2007 and didn't pick it up. Should be some place you could look these things up, don't you think?

I'm going to try and post a list of names we have so far sometime this weekend. We have well over 100 marks stored. Thanks to all that have contributed and especially DDD. With 4000 to 5000 makers out there, either active or not, we have a ways to go. (I have heard that number thrown around. Don't really have a clue how many there are.) It is doable, but it can't be done by a few. We need some help, so if you have a few minutes take some quick snaps of your collection and send them in. Your favorite maker might be waiting for you to do this.

An Internet pictorial data base will reach everyone everywhere and can be
    updated continuously forever!
I hope! It would be great if the makers could update their info and add to it themselves. With oversight of course. I really hope that is on the way.

Yes, Harry, that "B" is my current mark. I had a professional graphic designer create it, and I paid dearly for it. Shoot I'm still paying for it. It was created by my wife!

I have a picture of a 22 year old knife I just restored, and I got a fair shot of the mark used then. I need to find a picture of the mark used between these two and send them to you.

We have a member working on the CKCA website software to re-vamp our maker's link page to include all sorts of maker information in a very user friendly format if thats the plan for storing marks.
However, it's a very time consuming and complex process.
