Again, I'm not Ethan, but I think I know the answer. The steel of the BK13 is 3Cr13, a close relative of 420. I hope you don't mind...http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=600692
Ethan,
I just ordered a BK9, which Tomars assured me will come with the bonus BK13, and I was wondering if you had some info for us on the BK13. I understand it is made in China, but I was wondering is it typical "Made In China" quality, or is it more like Becker/Kabar quality.
Don't get me wrong I am not expecting much, especially for free, but was just wondering if I can really abuse it, or it I should keep this potential collectors item away from the woods and in the box.

Morales,
Thanks for the link. That post answered my question in another post as to whether Kabar plans to offer micarta scales for the BK&T knives too!
Glad to see someones lookin' out for me![]()
It came w/o request w/ my bk9
Hey Chewbacca, Morales, and AI.....
There is supposed to be a BK13 REMORA with each BK7 & BK9 ...The steel is as Morales wrote 3Cr13 which is, indeed, a close relative of 420HC...Not my all time favorite steel but I have some kitchen knife protos made from 3Cr13 and it gets sharp easy, is a moderately aggressive cutter, and holds an edge better than my SAK Rucksack......I use at least one of them everyday and have for 2 years and I am pretty picky about my kitchen cutlery.....Mind you--think Henckels or Wustoff, NOT Murray Carter or the Shun blades...I think you will find it useful if for no other purpose than cutting your food up in the field....There are a whole lot of blades out there made from this steel or clones of it that do a workman-like job....
All Best...

Here is a nice picture of the combo.

I only asked because I was afraid it was a VERY limited time offer, and I was going to shop around if he had already shipped out all of the knives with the BK13 included. I cannot wait to test out the BK9.
I think Ethan said in the thread posted by Morales, that there were quite a few made, so they should be included for a while.
By the way, I am digging the big knife small knife combo, a lot. When I was a teen, I had a really cheap bowie/skinner combo that I thought was the best thing ever...even though it would barely take or keep an edge.

Looks like a nice little blade to bad I've already got a BK9, BK7, BK5, BK10, and BK11 from camillus and really aint in the financial position to be buying another BK9 or BK7. Hope these come out soon by themselves I'd love to add it to my collection.
Have just purchased a SanMai Necker (BK11CSM), Carbon Neck (BK11), and conditionally a Combat Bowie (BK9) that is SUPPOSED to come with the BK13 Remora (a new one for the database) - that's half of the Becker/BK lineup + 1 :> My little present to myself for getting layed offhah.
Was told that not all of the BK7s and BK9s are coming in with BK13s, but they would look and make SURE I got one (thanks Tomar!) or would not ship at all. I THINK I'm getting one. Hope hope. The price on the BK9 is outstanding too for a big knife. I suspect THAT one will go into the safe, and one of the spare Camillus BK9s will come back out as a user. Need me a big knife for the vehicleOther than the Brute (BK1) or MachAx (BK4), the Combat Bowie (BK9) is by far one of my favorite Big Knives (tm).
The neckers (BK11 CSM and C) are going to be a lovely additions. Same thing. Hoard, I mean archive the carbon one, pull out a Camillus model for the EDC/backpack. The San Mai will be ogled and used a teensy bit. Considering it's a flash run, and limited number (and RARE ;>), well, yah. I might have to buy a second.
