We have many different 3D-animals that we regularly shoot at.
3D-shooting is great fun!

Thanks for posting this i am a huge history buff and I am really getting interested in Vietnam especially the regular soldiers stories

I happened to think about being over there again this morning. I was wondering why I didn't have more pictures than what I did and it dawned on me that I didn't have my own camera until I came back from R&R which was real close to the end of my tour. There's a real good chance if I did have a camera when I got there it would have only lasted a month with all the mud, rain, and other crap that would destroy it. Seems to me once I got home from Nam the camera was already trash. Maybe I can take some more pictures of the pictures from then and post them.

Ray, my grandfather was in Mexico with Pershing in 1916, WW1 and WW2 and yet, to the best of my knowlege, we only have a couple of pictures of him "over there". Oddly enough, all of them are from France in WW1. Nothing from Australia, New Guinea, etc. during WW2 even from the times when they weren't waiting for the Japanese to come storming over the mountains or across the beach. Like him, you guys were pretty busy when you were in Vietnam and the climate was not too friendly to mechanical things.

Joe and Joe, Trying to keep a camera dry in Nam was a real challenge and even when it was dry the humidity was unbelievably high. I think the only thing we had going with our cameras is they weren't all that big. We had enough crap to carry as I'm sure was the case in WW I and WW II. Got a feeling I'll have to post what I have with several different posts and I'll try and explain what is going on although at the time I don't believe anyone knew what was going on over there.



These shots were taken shortly after I returned from R&R. Think it may have been April of 1970. If you notice the mountains in the back ground I'm pretty sure its around there I would end up for the next few weeks.



A couple more pictures before I boarded my chopper.


I'm on the chopper now. I got new boots.


This is where I ended up. Our new home for a week or two. Just started setting up our 81mm mortars. Another beautiful location called LZ Terrace.


Same location a few days later. Those puffs of smoke are 500 pound bombs. I think you can see one of the jets if you look real hard.

We very seldom got to stay at the same location more than a couple weeks. As soon as we got settled in it was time to move.


This picture was taken a couple weeks later, we got kicked off of Terrace and got our own hill almost within shouting distance from Terrace. We just got snipped at a few minutes before this picture was taken.


This is the reason we got snipped at. The choppers must have brought there own snipers.


A picture of our shitter. Really nice view. Don't forget to bring your own paper and your M-16.


Back in base camp getting packed up and ready to leave for Cambodia. I'm eating a can of pears and a pound cake. By far one of the better choices out of a case of C-rations.


More grocery's to put away. Our shopping cart we wore on our backs.

Here's the last of the photo's. Hard to believe this was 38 years ago.


A gathering of my platoon just before we boarded our buses on our trek to Cambodia.


Here we are on our bus. Thats me trying to look like Lawrence of Arabia at the back of the bus.


Only picture I took after we got dropped off in Cambodia. Who needs a tornado when you have a Chinook chopper stirring things up.


Back in the rear after 9 days in Cambodia. I was a clown even back then. Looking for a meal in the trash. 2 or 3 days after this photo was taken I found myself in the hospital for the next few weeks. Picked up some bug while in Cambodia.


Believe this was the last picture taken from my 3 month old camera. I was released from the hospital in the morning and found myself a few hours later back in the field. Less than 3 weeks left in the army and they send me back out for another week before I come back to the rear and get ready to leave Nam.

Will, Why dig them in when firing one round will set them. I think it may have just been setting there when I took the picture.

You don't know how glad I am to be here and to share these pictures. Not sure if I was in my right mind when I returned but I still felt very blessed to be back home. Glad you made it back and thank you also!
