just came in from the cold , doing a little fire building with becker and fire steel. had a good luck with the fire steel ,dry leaves and shavings . i am getting ready for a deap back woods trip in a couple weeks . its going to involve alot of shelter building, traps, fire building and alot of.........nothig. work is about to drive me crazy , it will be good to get back to some form of sanity again . in my opinion nothing purifies the mind and body like pain discomfort and creativity.

gutsy., i'd love to see some pics of your upcoming woods trip. Haven't gotten to use my BK11 or BK9 much yet so it'd be nice to see some Beckers at work!

I like taking a ziplock bag stuffed with dryer lint. Perhaps it is a bit cheating, but the stuff is very light and ignites easy. Nice to have handy if I really need to get a fire going quickly.

i used my bk7 .i had to build a fire to burn the handles of the hawks ive been working on . it kinda gives the wood o sunburst look. i used the bk7 to baton the cedar logs into more manageable/faster burning pieces and make shavings for starter. i will try to take some pics while im on my trip but i cant promise how the quality will be . if i bring a camera that means i will have to take the stupid bright yellow pelican case . oh well i guess its a sacrifice i would be willing to make. me an one of my buddies are still trying to figure out where we are going to go. maybe cohutta maybe tellico maybe the back side of star mtn . who freakin knows . its going to be a drop off and recovery if you know what i mean. somebody to drop us off and some body to pick us up. we pack radios and give holler to one another around pick up time .......its weird but it works .
