    First, welcome to the forum.

Second, in many areas, switchblades are illegal to own or carry, so asking how to convert a legal lockblade into an illegal switchblade is frowned upon here.

You may be able to get such information in the Automatic Knife/Switchblade subforum. I don't visit there much since I live in one of those places where they are illegal.

Since switchblades are against the law in NC, which is where you are posting from, it would be contrary to BladeForums rules to discuss this topic.

It is only illeagel f you carry it concealed. I only tinker with things that aren't illeagel because i am a teen. I only COLLECT knives not use them in an offensive manor. i'm sorry if I came off as a thug who can't get a stiletto. Thankyou if you understand

That only compounds the issue as by federal law switch blade knives may not be transfered by individuals.

Its not that you coming off as a thug, rather is a CYA type of thing.

search the web I'm sure you will find sevra good pulications to assist you in your goals.

Making something legal into an illegal weapons is a bad way to get into the SEALS or the Navy period. Tinker all you like, but stay away from the illegal things. Many people mod knives and other equipment, but start with a working design and try to improve on it to fit your needs. Converting a manual to an automatic would do nothing for you IMO.

I have thought about converting a knife I own to an auto and have always decided against it as it makes the knife unlawful and renders it flawed for the rest of it`s life .However if you still think it is a good idea youtube has some things like that you can look for, just remember something I learned at around 15 years old what fun is something you can`t carry, use, show to anyone or sell .(What I mean about not showing it to anyone is people always tell other people and it always gets back to the people who don`t approve and can do something about it.)

"Switchblades" are controlled from transferring across state lines by Federal Staute under the Dept of Commerce, and not BATFE as many people believe. The State Laws govern what goes on in their respective states. By the way, the Dept of Commerce doesn't know how their own law works, let alone how to enforce it! Only one thing for sure, if it's discovered while using the USPS to transfer across state lines, you WILL lose your knife, and maybe incur a minor fine.

The Gerber Obsidian is pretty much a gravity knife already. I'd be careful with it as is, and probably wouldn't try to convert it to an auto.
