Does anyone know if this Solo knife was made for Spyderco? I saw another this past weekend that was made by Tak Fukuta and had a ceramic blade. It was also the "Solo" brand but was not marked as such and the dealer said it had been made for Spyderco.

tvranesic, that is really nice! I got this one through the SFO quite a few years ago. I have modified it a bit. This is also my grass mowing knife....

Sal and Kristi I hope you don't mind me posting these!

    Hi Tvranesic,

We've had a number of brands that we've creted over the years.

The Solo pictured was ours. My design. very nice piece. We stopped making it becaue it was too hard for the maker to make.

Sal-thanks for the confirmation. It's really a gem of a knife. The quality is outstanding.

Wow! I love this knife even without the spyderhole, the bolsters & overall design is fantastic.

We also made a longer version of the bolstered Solo. Not too many out there.

We thought about remaking the design. The original design had a white micarta scale on one side with a red sun and the other side had a black micarta scale with a pearl full moon. Pretty piece. Just too hard to make then.

I think the technology is there now to do what we couldn't do 20 years ago.

Thumbs up Solo, Moki & G-Sakai

I am very blessed to have a copy of Spyderco's 1997 dealer's catalog. On page #26 of that catalog there are some really beautiful Solo models. They also have some Moki knives in that same catalog.

As beautiful as the Solo blades are I tend to like the Moki and G-Sakai knives just as good or even better. I have really become an admirer of some of these extremely high quality Japanese made knives in the past year.

I will always have preference for great USA made Spyderco blades but I will admit that the Japanese are bladesmiths to be respected and admired.

I have the Sakai 103 - quite a peculiar but so elegant slender knife. The longest Solo is also one I would love to add.

I have a Solo santoku with Solo written on the side of a mountain and next to it golden co. and on the otherside Titan alloy blades made in japan the blade is 6"1/4 long and the handle just under 5". it is light and sharp. I would sure like to know a little more about it like what is the handle made of etc. thanks arthur
