Columbines are always a special moment when you come across them. It's also the Colorado State Flower. Here's some more East Tennesse wild flowers. Mountain Azalea and a yet to be ID'd specimen.

Here's a rather unusual flower, called a Coneflower. We took a drive on Saturday and up at about 8500 ft we found these, we've been in that area numerous times but never saw them before.

We came across an amazing field of wildflowers over the Labor Day weekend. The standout was the Matilija Poppy, had no idea that these grew at 6500 ft in the Southwest.

A couple of more from East Tenn. Haven't ID'd the first one yet but the second is an ox eye daisy.

Butchie, I totally missed this question! Sorry, bro!
No flash, held a piece of kydex behind the flower when I snapped the shot (very knifemakerish, no?).

What a cool thread this has turned out to be!
My wife does botanical illustration and we often discuss the overlap between that and photography. 'Composition' is one key to both. This "orchid study" image was an exercise born out of our discussions about composition - main subject off center, rule of thirds etc.
