Hi Greg, welcome to Bladeforums. You might want to try a search in the Gadgets & Gear section. My suggestion is to look at Blackhawk brand gear and possibly 5.11 brand.
Hey guys. My first post here. I'm liking the information here very much. This is a knife related question sort of...
I'm looking for a tactical vest (it doesn't have to be fully "tactiCOOL"), with the ability to have a KA-BAR sheath mounted in the upper chest (front of the shoulder left or right) mounted.
It doesn't have to be 100% tactical, but I want the knife there because it is out of the way of my hands and protected from general body motion (I'd always be hitting my hip sheath off of things). Left shoulder inverted seems like a good spot for a knife. Reach across, unbutton and pull.
Anyone have a setup like this for their woods excursions?
If you plan on carrying a pack, that set-up will get in the way of shoulder straps, if you shoot a long-gun, that can get in the way as well.
I think a tact vest makes more sense if you are needing carry options for combat, but for woods-bumming, I think a pack makes more sense.
I would say tape or cord it to your pack strap, also, inverted carry can be a liability with a heavier knife, as its biased towards leaving the sheath.
Here's how i carry my Izula, left shoulder, quick as hell to draw and goes in that perfect slicing wave straight out of the sheath.
This is a Warrior Assoult Systems R.I.C.A.S, which will fit medium sapi plate front and large back and balcs cut softarmor.
I guess u could try the same with your Ka-bar.
Dude that is totally and utterly SICK! I love it! And its on the left so you can still shoulder a rifle/shotgun! Amazing! SICK!
Also, I was wondering something else that I thought I'd just keep here....
Any way that you guys know of mounting a USMC KABAR (I have the 1245 Tanto fullsize coming in the mail), with a Kydex sheath, horizontally on the back of my belt? I am thinking of just making some 550 Paracord straps for the back of the sheath and sliding my belt through the loops I made.
I want to be able to concealed carry it in an urban setting. I think horizontally on my belt would be a comfortable place.
We've had some syringe wielding drug heads robbing people under threat of puncture with the needle around here lately. I have a cold steel AK-47 coming, but, I've decided I want my KABAR to be my EDC because of this. I do not want me or my girlfriend to be caught in a situation like that. If it happened, I'd give my money to him just to avoid the potential conflict, but if they made a move toward me or my girl, I'd want to have some options available to me. The KABAR being one possibility. Tell my girl to run like the wind and I'd make sure he didn't chase her.
That was a rant, but I just want you guys to know why I'm thinking about this. Probably didn't need to explain because I'm sure a lot of you guys are like minded :P
Crazy how my (once quaint) city is getting so violent lately.
There are lots and lots of better options than a large fixed blade knife for personal protection. Just think about it. Do you really want a crackheads blood all over you? Go get a CCW and a pistol. Or some mace.
In canada you can carry a KaBar concealed, but you can't hardly own a pistol? What about pepper spray? Stun Gun?
So stabbing a crackhead with a Kabar is the solution? Me, I'd opt for a nice stout walking stick. Keep the infected needle-waving fiend at a bit of distance.
If your close enough to use a Kabar, you're close enough you got stuck with the needle. Lose. Other options include sticks, like walking sticks, running, and tossing money/wallets so they stay away.
