Machete sheaths for Fiddleback and others

My name is Heber Ellsworth (wildmanh) I've been working with leather for about 10 years now and been making machete sheaths for about 4 years. Last Winter Andy asked if I wanted to make some nice machete sheaths for his customers so here I am.

All of my sheaths are made from 10-12oz or occasionally 8-10oz USA Saddle Skirting from Wicket & Craig. I mainly work with brown Skirting but can dye it black on request. Sometimes custom colors are available like Mahogany, feel free to ask and I'll let you know if I have other colors on hand. Currently sheaths are hand stitched with Heavy Duty Waxed Nylon thread (white) though Natural Artificial Sinew is also available. Each sheath is finished with Montana Pitch Blend Leather dressing. Each sheath comes with a user replaceable keeper strap and loops on the back for lashing your sheath down to your leg, pack or other gear. Nickel hardware is standard though Brass and Black are also available. If you don't specify, you get Nickel.

Current pricing for a standard Machete Sheaths (Prices subject to change with out notice.)
    Blade length Price
    11" Or less $35
    12"-15" $40
    16"-18" $50
    Larger Contact
    Some custom options:
    D-ring and Dangler +$10
    Double stitching +$5 to $10
    Custom Colors when available +$5
    Firesteel loop +$5
Piggyback loops +$5 each (Horizontal loops for attaching pouches to)
    Other options available, just ask.

Here are pictures of some of my more recent machete sheaths:

    Standard 12" Brown sheath:

Double stitched 12" Sheath with w/D-ring and custom Dangler:

    Black 14" Sheath:

    Standard 16" Brown sheath:

    Standard 18" Brown sheath:

Here's what the back of the standard 12".

It shows a double Tie down loop. Also note the Chicago screw on the belt loop. It holds the Keeper strap in place making it user replaceable.

And here is the back of the 12" Dangler:

Has a single Tie down loop. The D-ring can be placed higher or lower, per the customers request. Also the Dangler loop can be longer. On that one the custom ordered it short.

If you would like to order a sheath or ask questions my email is wildmanh@yahoo.com. My phone number is available on request. Thanks for looking!

Any idea on what the weight will be on the various sizes?

I'm not ordering until I get all of my machetes and figure out which ones will get used where (one is going in my work truck, one will be kept at home for yard work, etc).

Honestly I have no clue what the weight will be. Depends on the thickness of the leather and how much goes into each sheath. As soon as I have some sheaths made, I plan to weight them and keep track of the average per size.

That information will be in an update either in the forum or on my site.

No problem. It will make things easier on people and my self. Let me know when you figure out what you want. I totally understand about matching the sheath to the handle.

    Leather Sheath

    Hey wildmanh,

I have an 18" coming whenever I am next up on the list. When it does I would like to order one of these cool leather pants for it!

Let me know what color you want and if you want a Retaining strap and I'll put you on the list. Thanks!

    Sheaths I ordered

    Hi Heber,

Just wondering how you are doing on the sheaths I ordered. Do you have pics? My machetes are looking kind of sad without them

Hey Stuart, sorry for the delay on your sheaths. 2 are finished, 2 were wet molded today and are drying. After they dry I'll glue the welt and start on the fancy sewing. They are at the top of the list and if all goes well will be mailed off Monday the 4th.

All the sheaths I have right now are spoken for. Right now the best way to get one is to email me with what you'd like and I can put you in my Que which has about a 5 week lead time right now.

Thanks for the kind words and help over the years. I still use those two folder sheaths you made me years ago.

Can I pay now for it? I'm going to be deployed and comms might be an issue so I would rather pay for it and have it sent to my wife.

Pre-paying is not a problem. If you will send me your Zip code I can figure out your total. wildmanh@yahoo.com is my email address. Which color are you interested in? Brown, Chestnut and Black are you choices. Thanks!
