    More HEST/F LE pics

    Hi folks -

    I received my HEST today.

The knife came packaged as well as any knife I have ever received; you can tell it was carefully packaged.

The Tin is very cool - the printing is laser sharp.

I love the Monster (Dahlken) lanyard and titanium bead, a nice additional "goodie".

I have looked my knife over very closely, and it does not have any scratches or blemishes. I was happy to see that I got one of the mis-print versions. This will not effect cutting ability in my opinion.

    A closeup of the blade:

The printing on the blade is very crisp and appears well done.

The grind is very even, and the sharpening is well done, very consistent on both sides all the way to the tip.

I loosened up the pivot slightly and the knife opens easily, with the thumb studs being some of the better feeling I have experience with. The studs are large enough to get a good push on, but they don't have any serrations or sharp edges to irritate the thumb.

Lockup is very good, and the action of the knife is smooth, comparable to any of my higher-end folders out of the box.

I am liking the roto-block design - a nice step forward in my opinion. If you were cutting drywall or something that required a lot of force, it would be reassuring to be able to lock the lock-bar in place.

The knife feels like a quality knife in hand, the G10 is well done and the fit of the scale to the liner on mine is good.

The tip is very slightly exposed on my example, but I can't see how it would interfere with getting the knife in or out of my pocket.

The handle feels good in hand, with the "bird-head" butt on the handle giving you a little more area of contact when you grip the knife normally.

One area of note that I have noticed, and I will take pictures later when I have time to get out my lights, is that when closed the portion of the sharpened blade that is closest to the pivot is fairly near to the outside edge of the handle when the blade is closed.

I can barely touch the sharpened blade edge with my pinky-finger if I try to do so. A child or someone with very slender fingers might be able to cut themselves accidentally in that area if the user were careless even if the knife is closed. I have never noticed this on any other knife.

All in all, I am very pleased with the knife and the additional goodies. It is a classy touch having the routed-wood holder for the knife. I am not normally a "skull and crossbones" kinda guy, but I wanted the LE version of this one, and I thought this one would be the one to have.

I will be interested to see how this knife performs in cutting, and I'll be comparing this knife's abilities against some pretty tough competitors, including the fine Spyderco Military, as well as my ZT0551.

    best regards -

Hi UDT SEAL. As you probably know I work with a lot of SEALS. Both black and whiteside.

Can I have your BUDS class #?. If you are indeed a UDT or SEAL then full respect to you. I know what it takes to make the grade. If not then I think you need to pick another handle.

Then full respect to you Sir. My SEAL friends are sensitive to people who don't step forward with their BUDS number. Thats' all.

    Glad we cleared that up.

Yes I am an American. My family came here in 1627. I immigrated here in 1980 because my dad was born in Canada in 1933 (My grandparents were American as was my father)

    Lay off the roids, bro...

Anyway, back to the knife. How were you so lucky as to get in on this beauty? I can't even find any regular models.

Dig the tin, the multi-tool is a little odd...

Nope. You provided your service info and you were commended. You answered my question and that is cool. I am not a SEAL. Some have worked for me and I have worked with some along with other special operations branches. Its a small community thats why I asked what your BUDs Class was. You take offense at that.

No thugs employed here. Be proud of your service.
