Apology To Gianni and Lion Steel

Late last night, in a bit of a rage, I said some unkind things about Lion Steel knives. The ranting review is now over on the knife reviews forum. I apologize for my unfair criticism of Lion Steel. I had just received my new HEST folder and the thing was so stiff I could barely open it with two hands. I may or may not end up keeping the knife. I am breaking it in. But I am sure that Lion Steel makes good knives. People I know and respect who have them have told me so. I will do a proper review of the knife when it breaks in. Both Gianni and RYP stepped up with suggestions and stood by their product, offering a refund. I can't ask for better than that. I look forward to seeing some more Lion Steel products at the Blade Show.

Good to hear.

I wonder if the super stiff opening is specifically to be sure no customs official, or law enforcement can flip it open, and classify it as a gravity knife, subject to seizure and prosecution.

In any case the reason for the good retention ball are:
-The knife has a clip down. It could be dangerous if it will open when you are carrying it
- Gravity knife. There are a lot of countries where the custom officers make this test before let the knives come in in their Country. Gravity knives are not always permited.

If you use the knife for a couples of days it will work better, and you will learn the right way to keep it while you are opening the blade.

I worked it for three days, but it is still too stiff for me to reliably open one-handed. I am keeping my finger off the lock, too. I sent it to DPx for tuning. Thanks for your help.

I too have felt the initial disappointment when a new knife doesn't meet expectations. Often it will break in our you'll adjust to it and it will grow on you. You're apology speaks volumes, I hope the knife works out for you and if it doesn't, I'm sure Lionsteel will do the right thing.

I took mine apart and cleaned it and lubed it with RemOil, then tuned the pivot tension. Mine's smooth as butter now. The pivot and washers were black and gummed up with grease and metal particles when I got mine and it was also pretty stiff.
