do you want easily portable, or cheap, easy to make, and nearly impossible to damage?
here's a set of instructions for my "stupid viking chair" - (I did not write them, but it's the same pattern)
Anyone got a camp chair they love to death? Tell me about it! I'm in the market

I still need to practice on the unofficial "Bushcraft Chair":

I've packed in Kifaru's chair which is quite different:
Field Chair

I'm surprised I don't hear more about these:

I'm looking for more of the heavier folding types. I've got an ultrlight one, but this would be a pair for car camping h
I've had a nice little wooden beach chair from Byer of Maine for a number of years. I don't think they're made in the US anymore, and the quality has gone down, but if you can find an older one or put one together yourself, they're super comfy and very handy for the beach, car camping, tail gates, etc. The two frames just slide apart, and the seat piece nests inside the frame of the back piece.

For vehicular based use, I have the Coleman Summer/Patio Sling Chair, here, which is great for hot weather as the seat fabric is mesh.
My other Coleman is the Sling Chair, here, which has a waterproof (red/black) seat fabric.
I was astounded at the ergonomics, support, comfort and utility of these chairs, which collapse into their own travel bags (which have shoulder straps), so much so that I bought three, and a further two for friends. These are the best, full size camp chairs I've ever owned.
I also have the excellent Walkstool Comfort 55/22 which fits into a 40cm tripod case that mounts onto my pack, and several ultralight Crazy Creek Cradle Lounger's (similar to the Sling-Light Camp Chair).
These are the best ultralight seats I've ever owned.

Car camping. Zero-Gravity lounge chair!
Or my trusty Coleman Deck Chair. These have angled backrests and armrests that make it feel like an easy chair. Lean back and relax. Big seat if you want to add a cushion. I have them with and without the side table. Great chairs!
Other's I have and like are this and this from REI. The first has nice armrests and the latter an attached seatback cushion that slides the length of the seatback to offer upper back or lumbar support. Both offer that lean back and relax position.
I have one of these,

a great chair, comfortable, packs small.
These are a big hit in the motorcycle community.
They make a pair of leg extensions as an option that raise the chair up for more comfort and less likely to sink in. You can even get your name embroidered on them.
Some assembly required for use but no big deal.

Heres a video of Iawoodsman putting together a bush chair. Its the most comfortable chair Ive used, and its packable, and fun to make if you have the materials at hand.

I have a zero gravity chair, its comfy as heck. When we go to the Drive-in we fight over it.
For car camping I've been using something I picked up from Wal-Mart. I think it's branded "Ozark Trail" but I got the heavy duty offering. It was a few bucks more but it says it will hold up to 350lbs. It's a little wider than the basic chair and it's held up to drunk guys plopping into it for a few trips. Most of the cheap camping chairs I've tried have been just that- cheap. But this one has held up, still feels solid.

Joe, I am loving the two I picked up at Wally World. Fat boy's models, they hold 350+ pounds with no sweat. They come with lumbar support as well. $20 each.

+1 on the stupid viking chair, also called a "Bog Chair", "Civil war field dentists chair", board chair, or a million other names.
