AWC Im would be a better buyer right now as much as I want a bushcrafter Daniel will have my chopper done in a couple of weeks. So if I want to stay alive I better wait on a bush crafter or my wife will cut parts of me off with it!!

Even though I could imagine a piggyback sheath with my new Sioux Warrior survival knife with the bush crafter riding piggy back!!! Would not be anything I could not handle!!!

Dam I need more money!! If my daughters Jeep had not just cost me over $700 to fix I would be all over it!!!

BC, I,m afraid I wouldn't be any better as a buyer right now. Daniel is close to finishing 2 for me and I'm about to buy a car myself. I was just wondering how I missed a DFK for sale on the exchange. They don't come up very often. I hadn't looked on the Canadian exchange. On another note, Barracuda was not working on the computers at work last night. I was able to get on BF, look at gun and knife sites, all those evil weapons web sites. It made those 12 hours seem like 9 1/2.
Probably go in today and Barracuda will be working, oh well.

Morning men. Beautiful day here today. Except for the 3 alarm fire at a laudromat stinkin up the air, I had a nice ride on the bike to work this morning. I have tomorrow off, and hope to get some work on several knives done. I have two slipjoints to finish, I started on my mini the other day, I need to finish fitting the guard on my first hidden tang and finish the post HT sanding. Maybe I'll even get a chance to work on my rifle a bit, I need to customize the scope base to fit my modified action.

I sure wish that I had some money to buy a bushcraft knife, but I have too many in the works right now! Just got two, one is paid for and I'm waiting on shiping, another one in the works in a trade deal, and a super sweet rigging knife in the works. Maybe I'll comission a custom marlin spike, I have drawings of the perfect spike all ready for whatever maker wants the challenge!

Xander I know a guy who does great titanium work on a lathe. I think he could do anything you wanted. (I've been toying with the idea that he might be able to make a marlin spike for me). But it would be super expensive >$100 I'm sure.

Well if that's the case, that isn't all that bad! I have spoke to another maker about doing a wrought iron and stainless damascus spike for me, and his quote was above that. For custom tools such as my rigging knife I have coming from Daniel, I don't see the issue with spending a bit more for that.

Too bad Daniel doesn't do machine work, or I would have a round spike coming from him as well! Maybe one of his flat shackle spike in the future, but I need a splicing spike again.

Evening gentlemen! Round of drinks on me! I've got only three choices though. Scotch, Bourbon, Whiskey.

Enjoying an absolutely devine evening sitting in the shade of my 90 yeard old Almond tree, 3 fingers of Bulleit and two ice cubes, its 70* and nothing could be better. Had a great ride to and from work on the bike, and now I am working on trying Daniels secret heat treat method. I am doing three test pieces all to be pulled out after differen soak times. I will update later with results, but here are the pics in the hot box...

I think one issue with the spikes is that you can easily have too many hours into them and pricing becomes an issue.

Speaking of machining work I am seriously considering using a waterjet service to cut out some rigging knife blanks for me with shackle openers cut into the blade. I'd like to use something along the lines of the design I have. I could have matching spikes cut out for each blank as well. I think a 7" version in carbidized Titanium might be the ultimate survival/emergency/backup/rigging/boating/diving/backcountry/mountaineering knife out there.

I have to try that double black! Sounds good and those tumblers are the best. I'd be making buffalo horn handled knives all day long if they were more for hard use, I love the stuff.

I'll get to you on that knife soon, I'm hoping we can work out something that works well for everyone.

Andrew, double black is nice but I'm a blue label drinker myself. That or Glenfidditch 18. Those horn tumblers are cool! Gotta find me some of those.

Daniel, I'll email you the design I have. It is based on the classic Drew spikes used for hundreds of years. It is dimensioned proportionally, so it can be scaled up or down based on the size rope you need it for.

Well here is the three test pieces from earlier air quenched ad tempered...




And a full destruction test is of course needed to ensure full transformation...



I do believe the DFK chicken Heat Treat method is attainable even at sea level altitude, but I did have to adjust the psi of my gas grill to accommodate the heavier air. Cooking times are quicker though.

Blue Label! I wish I could afford that... I'm partial to a nice green label myself, though I intend on expanding my scotch horizons soon. I like the double black, it's blended to be slightly peatier. It is a nice change.

Well, I got home from work a little while ago. Think I'll have some Knob Creek kentuckey straight burbon.
Daniel, get in touch with Chris (KFU). He used a water jet service recently. He may be able to give you some input.
