I sent a BK-14 and a Swamp Rat Howling Rat Gen II to Richard. He did an outstanding polishing job on the HR and he put a scary sharp convex on both blades. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. On top of that, the turnaround was barely a week. Richard is a class act. He clearly has a deep love and respect for knives and for people. A super nice guy. Thank you again.

Ive been meaning to post this for a while, here it goes.
Richard sharpened my Scrapivore and Swampwarden for me. They are great knives that will be with me for life but the factory edges where nothing to write home about. Richard put a wicked covex edge on both of them. I could not believe the difference in their ability to cut and because of the world famous Busse-kin heat treat, I know they will stay that way for a loooong time. I wish Richard and Busse (and Spyderco and Benchmade for that matter) would get together to provide the sharpening challenged (like myself) the very best edges out there. IMHO.

I had Richard sharpen every knife I own, including several that I had tried 10 times to put an edge on. They came back so quickly, and with beautiful edges. I had him convex about half, and those edges amaze me. He is also great about talking you through touch-ups and sharpening on the phone. All in all a great guy and an amazing result!

Haven't sent my knives off yet but was on the phone with Richard earlier today and I can tell you the guy loves what he does and really cares about people. As nice a guy as I've spoken to on the forums, and the fact that I can get 5 knives professionally sharpened for $12 isn't too shabby either. I'll post results when I get them back, but I expect I will have nothin but great things to say!

I just received a knife back from Richard that I wanted reground. Originally this Queen Dan Burke Barlow had an uneven grind and it was VERY thick behind the edge. I couldn't cut a straight line with it because it was so thick behind the edge. Richard did an absolutely impeccable job regrinding the blades, it looks like it came this way from the factory, seriously Richard knows what he is doing. In addition to his excellent craftsmanship, he is a really great guy to deal with, as others have said he made the effort to give me a call to discuss it all before, during, and after he completed the knife.

I couldn't be happier with the results, the knife is now VERY sharp and looks 100 times better to boot. I will let the pictures tell the story, you can see he did a kind of 3/4 height convex on both blades in order to preserve the nail nick. He even got it convex on the small wharncliffe!

I found Richard through this post and discovered I live less than an hour from him. Yesterday I took a large portion of my collection including my kitchen knives up to his place. I spent about 4 hours with Richard, and he showed me his custom knives and a lot of the equipment he uses.

He got a fantastic edge on all 37 knives I brought him. The knives ranged from a tiny Victorinox Classic up to a kukri, and the blade steels ranged from total junk up to 154CM, CTS BD1, S30V, D2, and ZDP-189. Even the two Kershaw Leek TIZDP knives that came dull back in 2006, which I spent hours trying to sharpen (in vain) on a Sharpmaker and even sent back to Kershaw to be sharpened (but still came back dull) are now shaving sharp. He also improved the factory edges on my Spyderco Manix 2 Translucent Blue and Caly3 CFP ZDP that were already pretty sharp.

He was very generous with his time and knowledge, and even went so far as to reprofile the edge of the kukri on his belt sander. I'm now sold on the paper wheels and once I get my own set I'll have to visit Richard again for some lessons, because he is a master at them.

If anyone is hesitating sending Richard knives for sharpening, don't. I'm convinced he can get a great edge on anything and he's a great guy to boot.

I'm sure most of you are familiar with "richard j". I'm new here so I just learned about his service last sunday. I sent three knives to him for sharpening and one for a regrind. He did the work and shipped them back on the same day he received the package from me. Wow! I received the knives back yesterday and I am very pleased with the results. These blades were never ever this sharp before Richard worked on them. He is GREAT at what he does and his fees are more than reasonable. Give him a try, you will be glad you did. I am.

I sent Richard a knife that I had trouble sharpening myself. Not only is the price super reasonable that he charges for his services. But he offered me some advice on how to use what equipment I have to sharpen particular types of knives. His turnaround time was excellent to which I believe he sent them out the same day he received them. The knife came back razor sharp. I can't say how grateful I am to know such a fellow member. Thanks man.

A++ Great communication, same day return shipping, and razor sharp edges... I will be a return customer. I sent him a queen mini trapper (d2 tool steel) that i was unable to sharpen but he put a crazy sharp edge on it. He was also a pleasure to talk to over the phone. A++
