The knife was shipped this morning to four_shore. I'll try to find some time later to write up my thoughts on the knife, but as of now I'm running a little late on my way to the dentist to have my wisdom teeth cut out.
Just received the knife. It just needs a good cleaning and sharpening and it's ready to go.
My intial impressions are that it has good ergos, other than the opening hole being a little overlapped by the handle. It rides well in the pocket. The jimping on the blade is interesting, seeing as it has the smooth spot right where my thumb naturally wants to rest.
I'll get back to you guys in a week and let you know if there's anything else I find that is worth mentioning.

Ok, time for my final opinions on the knife. I'm going to keep this pretty short seeing as I agree with most of the things that have previously been stated about the knife.
Ergonomics: Overall I felt the ergonomics were good. The handle fit well into my hand, and the texturing of the g10 was good, albeit a little agressive for me personally. I think the deep carry pocket clip was a good choice for this knife as it carried very well. I did have a few complaints about the ergos though. I prefer something a little bit more well balanced and the PPT was sort of handle-heavy. It was also a little thicker than what I normally like to carry. The jimping, as I previously stated, is a little strange. It is smooth right where my thumb wants to rest. I showed this to my father, which is an engineer, and his immediate response was "It would create a weak spot being so close to the opening hole", which is the only logical reason I can find for why they would leave that section of the blade without jimping. The opening hole was also a little close to the handle which was awkward at first, but once you get used to it, it's very easy to deploy the blade.
Blade: The ffg modified wharncliffe blade was adequate for my edc tasks which included cutting a lot of cardboard, shrink wrap, and tape. Personally I prefer something with a little more belly, and a little more length. The swedge gave the blade a fairly acute point, which was very useful for plunge cutting through some thick cardboard. The S30v held its edge well, and it also took an edge very well which is what I would expect coming from Spyderco.
Fit, finish, and lockup: The fit and finish of this knife was pretty good, given the price range. I wouldn't expect it to be perfect, but it was pretty close. The lockup was very solid (once I adjusted the pivot screw a bit), with no side-to-side play. The opening was fairly smooth with a small amout of grittiness. I tried to flush out the pivot and see if it was something that had gotten in there during use, but I couldn't get it to completely go away. If it was my personal knife I would have taken it apart and cleaned it to make sure that it wasn't dirt causing that.
Conslusion: I liked the knife, but not enough that I would go out and buy one. I got a lot of "Hey, that thing looks cool. What is it?" type questions from my friends at work. Once I told them what it was and let them hold it and check it out, their opinion was the same as mine. They thought it looked cool and was constructed well, but the handle-heavy balance and slightly agressive texturing kind of turned them off from wanting to get one. One of the guys at work had actually been looking at the PPT on Spyderco's website, but after handling it, decided to go with a different Spyderco knife.
I would like to say thank you to Spyderco and to j.h. for setting up this passaround and allowing me to try out this knife.
Nice review!
My feelings are similar...
Likes - blade shape, FFG s30v, strong detent, unique design, overall ergonomics.
Dislikes - heavy for it's size, pocket clip placement, non reversible clip, the lock bar exposure is just plain ugly, giant steel back spacer, strange jimping pattern.
This knife is decent but i personally would make several changes.
First off, I would have definitely used a flow through design to reduce the over all weight.
I'm not thrilled with the pocket clip on this knife. It's deep carry which is nice but the angle is awkward and causes the knife to sit very crooked in the pocket.
IMO a better option would have been a wire clip set about a half inch lower and more toward the right (close to the bottom torx screw). That would make the knife less concealable but in turn it would ride straight and more comfortably in the pocket (exposed handle makes the knife more accessible). Also the huge cutout in the g-10 is overkill and it affects clip placement (hurts the aesthetics as well).
The jimping is goofy on this knife (as others have mentioned).
I feel like the one (small) area that should definitely be jimped, is the only part that's not haha.
Obviously it wouldn't have hurt anything to make the clip reversible for lefties. Spyderco generally spoils us with many carry options so i'm puzzled as to why this knife only allows one position (which isn't a great one to begin with).
With a couple of changes this knife could be great but as is i wouldn't be interested in purchasing the PPT.
patiently waiting for a reply from allory to receive his shipping info...

This one is boxed up, and ready to go, just waiting for an address.
The knife was built very well, as all the Taiwan-made knives I've seen from Spyderco. Excellent fit and finish, great materials, good edge.
As noted, the clip cannot be reversed, but that didn't bother me. I love the low-ride position, although it did make it a bit more difficult to remove from a pocket. I never used the sheath, as the knife just floated around in there, and I prefer horizontal sheath, if I use one.
I would probably not be interested in picking one of these up for myself, though. It just seemed too small in my hands, when trying to open and hold it. I guess I just like larger knives, or if they are small, I'd rather not have the shape of the handle force my grip into an uncomfortable position. I just couldn't get a comfortable grip. Not really sure why. It seemed like my fingers were bunched too close together...
I love the way the back of the knife is a frame lock, but the scale is mostly covered by the G10. It's becoming a bit more popular on knives these days, and I agree. You have the added benefit of pressure holding the lock in place, but you have the dressed-up feel of a real back-side scale.
Thanks for running this, j.h., and to Spyderco for lending it to the Forum.
