I just got word from RWT that he is ready to send the knife on.
Guys - please take pictures and or videos of your torture, that is what the passaround is about.

1066vik, Let me know if it made it to you. I don't ship much so I bought everything the lady at the post office told me I needed. Also, I am interested to see if you consider the blade sharp at all. Give me a rating. You won't hurt my feelings I need to know how to improve. If any of the passaround participants, including JK, want to hog hunt, let me know. I have plenty to get rid of.
It didn't show today -- when did you ship it?
Also, did you get delivery confirmation (also called tracking -- green border on the piece of paper)?
if yes, what's the long string of numbers (a string of 5 four digit numbers)
It shipped tuesday afternoon. 1309348000054773507 was the only # on the receipt.
got it.
First impression - I really like the handles
second impression - I wish it had a lanyard hole.
Played with it a bit tonight while making dinner -- I'll get the pics from that uploaded Sunday, along with my "pre-abuse" review.
Will anyone object if i sand down the rough spot on the butt where the oak got chewed up being run over by a car? (or maybe it was being hammered into something)
RWT, on your sharpening job, the 1/2 of the blade closest to the handle would take hair off my arm, but the last inch of the blade was pretty obtuse/thick. Also, when sharpening, it's not just the number of strokes on each side - it's also how hard you push when you do it. Currently the knife has an asymmetric edge -- one side has a fairly steep grind, the other is more shallow -- this really tells when cutting soft materials -- like an onion, because the cut curved to the left the deeper into the onion I went.
It's a very easy mistake to make, especially with a new sharpening system. I suspect if you had given the left side of the blade an extra pass on the 220 grit belt each of the 2 times you sharpened the blade it would be even.
I did some touch up with a fine diamond stone to try and even out the edge, may do more with it later, it'll depend on how the testing goes. A few minutes with the diamond and an old butcher steel and I was able to clean the hair off a fairly wide patch of arm - and even nicked myself a couple of times without knowing it until later when I saw the red lines.
I'll be out of town tomorrow, so will post more - including pics - Sunday evening.
Should I post in this thread, or start a new one and just post the link here?
Hi 1066 -
No objection to cleaning up the rough handle - go for it.
Have fun and take pictures!

Cool.
will do.
here are a couple of comparison pics with my JK "big" bushcrafter:
this shows the serious taper on the scales - I like it, makes it real easy to index the blade and give good leverage for twisting.

Food prep -- doing soft chores before the hard ones
for me, a larger knife that can do small chores like this well is more useful than a small knife that can't do "big knife" tasks. (and yes, i still carry 2 or 3 knives with me when camping, but still...)
dices potatoes well, actually cuts them, not "wedge & snap" like a steeper grind on a thicker knife
also does a good job on onions.
and most importantly it cuts freshly grilled steak! (not shown are the really thin slices I made for this morning's steak & cheese omelet)
yes, that's a homemade fork and I was fairly sure the knife would cut through the paper plate, so I added a layer of high tech underlayment to protect the tile countertop.![]()
Lookin good!
Also no objections to sanding the handle.
Nice! I love the steak shots - I always used my JK's and sometimes my folders for eating steaks. Nice fork!
Today I used my Modified Wharncliffe for cutting up six racks of baby-backs - it worked splendidly.
Thanks for the pics - cool that you put it to mild use before the storm. ;^ )

Whoa, you guys aren't kidding about "torture" test. Cutting a brick in half with a knife? I think that qualifies as a level beyond "abuse," whatever that level would be called.... yeah, maybe torture.![]()
Hey 1066vik -
What have you been doing to the viKtim?

I hammered it through a 3" cottonwood point first to cut the tree down - then the weather and life got together to ruin the rest of my week.
Go ahead and send me the contact info for the next player, I'm not going to have time to do much with it in the next several days and don't want to hold things up any more, so if you get me an address, I'll get it in the mail tomorrow.
The viKtim is on it's way to Alaska!
tundratrader is ready to abuse the viKtim and post pictures and/or videos of the torture here.

yup - he should have it Saturday according to USPS
Hi Erik - Looks like the viKtim made it's way to Homer - pretty good for that long of a trip!
Here is a link to the map of where the viKtim will go if everyone on the list stays put -
