Stuff comes up, of course, but like you've said, you can normally predict that before the knife starts to get made.
Canceled once they were already made? I know the custom must have been already made.
If it were me, you would pay 100% up front before I started on the knife. If you cannot or do not want to pay for a knife, then I would never make it for you.
Glad you were able to sell the viKtim that was made for #3.

Its good to be green!
IMO I think cancellations are not that uncommon and potentially should be expected with an approximate 3 month waiting period. I have wanted to order one of these knives, but the waiting period has been a deterrent. I am not saying this is good or bad, just my experience.
Northridge88, You are doing the right thing, if one can't wait to get a knife made is best not to order it and if one needs to cancel the order is best to do it early in the game rather than waiting until the knifemaker starts working on it.
I waited long before ordering a made-knife because of the waiting period, however ordering from John was different because he encourages participation among his customers in the forum and everyone's shares information while waiting patiently making the wait easier, not to mention that John is a fine gentleman and very nice person to do business with.
Thanks guys! I`m working on the lead times, but I would rather work a little slower (but still get it done when promised) than go faster, and cut corners.

I understand waiting is tough, but once you work with John, and purchase his knife, and then use it, well, you"ll realize the knife was worth the wait! And although three months may seem like forever, I have seen some people just say save me the spot, so you can continually refine your decision while you wait your turn. I have changed my mind on several occasions going from one design to another, and John has been nothing but agreeable. John has been amazing to deal with and I consider him a friend who makes knives. Best of luck on whoever you might go with, but I can tell you from experience, you'll be very happy with a JK!
Good Luck
Dan
Honestly it helps me to know they are kinda "on here way" helps with the cravings,![]()
I can only afford so much knife a month so the wait isn't a problem for me.
I have JKs ordered all the way into September for crying out loud!
And I have 2 other makers knives on order & they are already past due,
but I know I'll get my JKs on time because that's just the way John rolls...
great customer service.![]()
