    Question Joonas Kallioniemi contact info?

I've been browsing around online (I have a thing for puukkos) and I keep coming across this maker's name: Joonas Kallioniemi. His work looks stunning! What I can't find is any contact information or a website for him. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Much appreciated!

He is a member and participant on the British Blades Scandi forum as am I. Here is his profile page link. Contact him by that, but you must register and be a forum member.

He's currently attending at his army service so it could take some time for him to reply. Just for avoiding you to be concerned about a delay in replying.

Not a problem. I was actually thinking of getting the knife once I move back to Germany (should save me some on shipping) I would just like to get more information about it now.
    Thanks!

    Here you have.

If you have big hands specify it to him as he makes rather slender and petite puukkos, follows the current trend of many finnish makers.

Shouldn't be a problem, I have what I would call average size hands.

This is a timely thread. I just bought a puukko from Joonas; hope to have it in hand by next week.

It can be a bit difficult to get a hold of him, but be patient as he will get back to you when he has the time. Now is an especially busy period in his life because of his army service. In addition he is preparing to "officially" get into making knives. Lots of paperwork -- legal, insurance, and the like.

Contact me if you want his email address.

I messaged him here, not a big deal for me though. I'm not in much of a rush really. How much did yours end up costing? One small thing I'm a bit worried about is they look so incredible I'll almost feel bad taking it outside and putting it to work. I think I might have him make me a very utilitarian puukko, squared off spine (for striking the ol' firesteel) 3" or so blade, not so much a "show piece" as a real user.

I'm loath to post the price I paid because these are custom knives. Each one is a little different, so I don't expect them to all cost the same.

I'll let you know when I get it, I'll start a thread with pictures.

If you could tell me what you paid I could at least get a ballpark.

You can get an idea of his prices from the sales thread he had on BirtishBLades. But don't take them as rules, just as guidelines.

I realize the price won't be exactly the same, thats why I said, "So I can get a ballpark."

Wanting to "get a ballpark" is understandable, especially when discussing non-custom items, but persuing such after it's been made very clear that the individuals you've asked would rather not divulge such information............not quite as understandable.

What one buys or sells a custom item for (IMHO) is not generally considered an "open season" question, nor should it be. As has been said.......many people loath such inqueries as it may be construed as then allowing leverage over the maker, by the buyer, to receive "the best deal" possible......or at least it would seem to give the buyer more "leverage" in dealing with the maker/seller. In that you have not been given any "ballpark" prices by any members responding to your "ballpark" question, that in itself should be pretty telling......especially after you've repeated your request, attempted to justify it and still remain without a "ballpark" estimate.

I'm not sure that having something built/made/arranged in a custom manner that you personally desire to have made in such a way or form allows another person to even make an educated guess as to it's worth and/or cost.

Several were nice enough to guide you in the right direction of Joonas, but that is where your work begins with him..........and their's ends. More importantly, Joonas is the ONLY one that has the answer to that which you so desire. If it takes a month to receive a response to your questions, that is what it is. But when you get his response based on the specifics of your custom order, it will be much more accurate than what anyone else can possibly give you...........

    Good luck..............

And at what point did he "make very clear he didn't want to divulge the information"? If you don't have something constructive to add to this thread such as what you might have paid for one of this maker's knives or your general experience with the maker please feel free to move along and give your oh so important opinion to someone who wants it.

I'm loath to post the price means he doesn't want to...

    Definition of loath:
    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/loath
    loath
       [lohth, lohth]
    adjective
unwilling; reluctant; disinclined; averse: to be loath to admit a mistake.
It's pretty clear. And being rude won't get you anywhere in life, let alone this forum.

From what I understand he didn't say "he is uncomfortable telling anyone the price" just that each knife would be different. At what point did this thread turn from information on contacting a knife maker to my manners? If the guy doesn't want to tell me what he paid, fine. I don't need someone else coming in telling me what another person meant by a post. This is starting to get a little ridiculous. If he doesn't want to tell me, fine end of story. All the etiquette police around here need to find something to do rather than sticking their noses into something that a: has nothing to do with them or b: that they have nothing constructive to add to. End of rant.

Thanks awc........... I was thinking much along those same lines............in fact, it would seem that most here would/could discern quite quickly and easily that no one felt it appropriate to give a "ballpark" figure. Asking more than once and trying to justify the question had exactly the same effect......to the casual observer, I'm sure that it would be abundantly clear. Perhaps everyone doesn't own a Websters and perhaps to "loath" doesn't register with some people, but it certainly describes exactly how I feel about such inqueries.

Well....let's try this, as it seems that the OP is either unwilling or unable to grasp the fact that everyone of these particular members are unwilling to speak for Joonas.......understandably so. Asking for a "ballpark" figure, at least IMHO, seems rather impolite, at best. No one has any idea whatsoever about what the OP wants in regards to his puukko, so other members estimates as to it's value when completed will likely prove to be almost useless.

I was hoping that you might "get it" that not one member was willing to answer your question, especially after multiple attempts on your part. My initial response was to help you understand why that might be. It seemed quite obvious that you were missing the very obvious......IMHO.

I don't consider my opinion any more valid nor important than your own, but there have been times in my life where others have helped me to better understand things that I was evidently "missing". It is a relief to know that there are other's who need neither help nor assistance in navigating such "grey area's".........nor do they desire such.

    Good luck to you..............................

Good lord.....You invested a lot of time throwing that wall of text at me. All I wanted to know was how much he paid for his so I could get an idea of what I was looking at. Thats it. In what world is it deemed "at best impolite" to ask what someone paid for something? Its at this point that I will cease to invest energy verbally sparring with you Magnumb.

Good luck to you as well............................
