Any Chance of an Custom Shop 112 Offering?

Hello!

I've been cycling through a couple variations of the 110 and 112 folders and have found that I much prefer the smaller size and stout profile of the 112.

I'd love to be able to "build my own" like one can with the 110 on the Buck website; is there any chance of this happening in the near future? I have been through a horde of folding knives from grandpa-slipjoints to super-tacticals and really appreciate the entire 112 package more than anything else I've handled recently.

My only real qualm with the production model is that 420 steel; it's "fine", but say what you will about Buck HT and practical use and low-cost, but I know I would certainly pay more for better steel.

Would we ever see something like PaperStone or Micarta offered as a handle scale material in addition to what's already on the site?

Any thoughts from the more experienced Buck crowd here?

There are tons of older models on the auction sites that were made with 440C steel. Those are my preferred models... And you could easily find a customizer to re-scale it for you...
This question comes up here from time to time, and it seems doubtfull that they will be offered in the near future... But who knows???

Thanks sitflyer; I have thought about searching for an older one in 440C but then part of what draws me to the 112's I have handled is the wonderful 'melted' handle that's devoid of sharp edges; I've got a bunch of folders in the closet that've got edges on the handles that rival those on the blades! As far as I know, older folding hunter-type models tend to have flat/slab frames?

Wow! Now we're talking. May I ask what a melt job like that will run you? Despite my fondness for nostalgic old Americana I'm a desk-jockey in an office and I don't have access to tools, and certainly not the expertise, to try something like that. They must carry a big easier than the full-framed ones, hm?

I pocket carry that 3 ditter almost EVERY day... LOL... it cost me about 4 -5 hours work...the older ones had slightly thinner frames so they lighten up a bit more from this...

Given the eminently practical size of the 112 I wonder if there is some specific reason that Buck does not offer this as a Custom Shop piece. Anyone from Idaho care to chime in?

Buck already did that about 2yrs. ago and the demand wasn't so great. You can get a 112 drop point w/paperstone handles and S30V blade thru the club right now.

I don't know very much about the BCCI, but part of what draws me to this particular design is that very lovely clip point! Thank you David.
So there's a chance! (perhaps, at some indeterminate point in the unknown future; but a "maybe" is better than a "no"). Thanks for the info JB.

I have to admit that the profile on those 112 DP's is much better visually than the Stag/112/DP from a few years back. I like it. g

DM you have a knack for dramatic action photography. Even the shadow is reaching out to grab those beauties. Well done. It looks like you prefer the 112 two to one over the 110 in that DP Paperston format.

FYI, nearly three years ago a group of us started agitating on this very board for a custom shop 112. We had the good luck to get the support of CJ Buck's daughter and a one time window (one month) was opened and orders where allowed to be placed. Everything would be based on the scale, bolsters, blade types, and prices of the Custom Shop 110 but you'd be getting a CS112. As I recollect just under 100 were ordered that one month. Also, most all ordered S30V blades but some got mirror 420HC and I know of one that had his black oxide coated. Some do get offered for sell from time to time.

Oregon, Thanks. I like them both and carry them. I should have gotten two 110's when they offered them so, I corrected my move with the 112's. In doors and in town the 112 does all I need, small game too. Outdoor jobs I carry the 110. DM

Wow... One month is all they gave it ??? Just look at the multitude of customized 112's on the market! There is an obviously huge demand for customized 112's and they only let it ride for one month??? hardly time at all for prospective buyers to even discover the availability of such an offering IMHO...
