You've been busy. That came out really nice. I'll have to look that sheath mod up. Looks good.
Got my BK2 monday
Lowbuck sheath mod wednesday
Stripped it yesterday
Patina'd today
did a white vinagar soak for an hour or 2, and then went to do some mustard stripes, but, out of mustard...
didnt have any oranges or grapefruit around, but did have some 10% glycolic acid (used for facial peels).
what the heck, gave it a try...
wrapped in a paper towel and sprayed it down with the glycolic, and let it sit for about 1/2 hour
came out pretty nice, but as usual, pics cant really pick up the contrast in color
Edit: this turned out to be too thin of a patina, came off way too easy, not long enough in the vinegar, or the glycolic undid the vinegar patina, either way.... crap.
will be re-doing

Interesting patina...
Good job!
thanks for the comments guys, will have to see how this wears.
it seems like the glycolic was removing the vinegar patina, a couple draws from the sheath has started to remove the finish
*DONT BOTHER TRYING THIS FINISH until i use it a bit*
i was thinking acid is acid, and just gave it a try, but a little reading on the web shows this stuff is used to remove deposits in boilers and such
great metal cleaner, but we'll see
worst thing that could happen is i start over......
absolutely nothing wrong with black
but wearing an all black big knife in a black kydex sheath in public in orange county ca.... draws the wrong kind of attention, ya know??
next steps here are plain micarta scales and a leather sheath
