If there's room (and you'll have me) I'd like to be considered for the ZT pass around. Feel free to email or pm me with questions or concerns. Thanks!

    Hi Eric,

This round is all filled up. The good news is there will be another passaround when this one is done.

    Thanks for the interest.

These are on the way to jhyde7585.

Shipped USPS Priority. If you save the packing materials, everything fits nicely in a priority medium box.

    Delivery Confirmation number is: 03110240000076789372
    Insurance: $950
    Total Shipping Cost: $24.65

Just a couple of other quick thoughts. If anyone wants to drop out because of the shipping costs, just let me know..no big deal. This thread needs to stay updated when the knives are received and when they are shipped. I shouldn't have to chase you down for the info. Several of my recent passarounds have been delayed or screwed up because of crappy communication and to be honest, it's pissing me off. If this is a problem, let me know and I'll take you off the list.

If you sharpen the knives, don't mess with the factory set edge angle without checking with me first. The 0551 was sharpened by someone during a previous passaround and they drastically changed the edge. I like to keep these passaround knives as close to factory "stock" as possible.

    Thanks

    Jason

Sweetness! although the only knife on this I haven't fondled here is the 301... Is there still room on the kershaw pass around? If so sign me up on the kershaw and take me off the ZT. Let one of the alternates get in on this.

Got everything earlier, I'll put up my opinions later this week

Edit.... Condition of everything is A+, 0350 is perfect. 0561 is perfect minus two tiny dots of wear on the locking side, only if you tilt it and get it in the right light. Same on the 0301. 0551 is perfect (but that edge! )

Note, I was extra picky when going over everything, just want to be cautious and note any flaws/marks. By the way, how gentle do we need to be with these? Obviously, im not going to beat on the thing, but is carrying ok? What about marks? What I'm asking, before I ruin anything, is it ok if I carry and use these like I would every other knife, for simple EDC tasks? (again, im not doing anything stupid/abusive)

Darn! So I can't baton the 0560 through a cinder block like I was planning to???

I can't wait to get my hands on these!!! Really looking forward to my first encounter with a 0560!

Quick question - Given there are 4 knives here, how long should we plan on keeping these before passing them along? 1 week doesn't seem like quite long enough to me for 4 knives.

I don't have a problem with keeping the knives a few extra days. I think a week'ish is good.

Well, after my week with the ZT's, I must say that I'm a fan. I was very impressed with the quality of all the knives, even if the designs weren't exactly to my liking.

I started off by opening up some boxes that I got, which coincidentally had some KAI offerings as well (the pink blanket is my girlfriend's )

Naturally, I chopped them up afterwards.

This ended in a bit of wear on the 0301 coating, and some marks on the 0560. The 0560 was easily wiped clean, the 0301 shows a little wear, nothing to be worried about.

This is hwere I really started to enjoy the recurve of the 0301. Amazing cutting power. The 0560 tended to slide off the cuts, whereas the 0301 powered right through them.

Which leads me into my thoughts on each one.

0560: Overall, love it. It could really really benefit from some softening of all the edges, like the 0551 has. Nice beveled corners, overall just a chunkier feel. (It's my understanding that this has been fixed) Also, the blade shape is one I really dislike. I hate that the tip is so hard to use when cutting, and the belly tends to slip off of cuts, rather than gathering them, like the 0301. Another grievance is the pocket clip. It rides a bit too close to the frame lock, and the "tip" flares up a bit much.

    Overall, 8/10

0301: My favorite out of the group. I don't exactly care for the speed assist, or the handle length. (could be just a wee bit longer) I DESPISE the green and the tigerstriping, buts that's an optional thing. The blade shape is very useful, G10 is very comfy and grippy, and the jimping is very very well done. Best I have come across. I also really enjoy the little depression on the spine of the blade, it adds comfort when cutting. I'm absolutely going to try out the 0200, I need this thing in manual!

    Overall 9/10

0350: I didn't use this. Far to small. My hands were very cramped in a 4 finger grip, and it was pretty uncomfortable unless I moves my thumb up into the depression in the spine. But it is very well made, fires hard, and locks up solid. But I just can't get over the size.
Pics of the knife in hand, compared to the others (excuse my sausage fingers)

    Overall 5/10

0551: My favorite part about this knife has to be the handle. So comfortable, KAI did a great job with the angles at which the edges of the material are cut, leading to a wonderful, comfortable, full grip. However, the lockbar is a horrid bother to get to, the 0551/0550 could benefit from a cutout to allow more room to get your thumb into position. Everything besides the handle comfort is meh. Blade shape isin't my favorite, detent can be an annoyance, and the ti is quite slick. An ok knife I guess.

    Overall 6/10

Just for fun, the 0560 cutting up some ribs for the crock pot
    (terrible cell phone quality)

Knives will go out tomorrow to Colorado, this week was a blast!

    WOOHOO!!! Can't wait!

Drop me a line with tracking when you get a chance!

ETA: Nice write-up. Thank you for the honest opinions! I haven't handled the 056x or the 0300 series yet, and I'm definitely looking forward to it.

A couple of the knives had fine burrs on the edge (0561 and 0350) so I gave them a few licks on the fine stones of my sharpmaker at the 40 degree setting. Shaving sharp again!

I'm really getting to like this Elmax steel (I also have a Scrapyard ScrapMax 460)! Feels like it has a really fine grained structure similar to many carbon steels. Easy to sharpen and takes a really nice edge too.
