Ah , ok . I'd like to try "real" winter camping sometime . Thought I'd have to get better equiped with a warmer bag . Sig_Op do you do some winter camping in Frontenac Park ?
It might be a tough one to get everyone one for winter camping on the first outing as most are probably not equiped either .
awc are you going to Mont Tremblant to ski ? If you're crossing at Hawkesbury you'll be passing about 2 miles from my place .
im in the military so ive done a plenty winter "camping" but no ive yet to try out frontenac. Although depending on what we can organize ill be going there this march break. Winter camping is great. Espically when you get to have a fire. As for a warm sleeping bag, I think a -20 would suffice if you have a good insulater between you and the ground.
lol sometimes I think I'm still in highschool...
I'm away for reading week I should be around during the march break, but only for weekends (and I might even be busy those weekends too, the military has a stranglehold on my life).
Are you in rmc? If so i'm sorry
awc , are you and Sig_op both actually still in the military ? and statoined Trenton I'd assume or is there a military base in Kingston as well ?
would either of you know about a military surplus store out in the country near Larose Forest ? actually Larose Forest might be a good spot to do the camping . been a long time since I was there though .
I am a current serving member of the Canadian Forces, I don't know about Sig_Op but I assume he is as well. There are a number of reserve units here as well as CFB Kingston and RMC (Royal Military College of Canada). The only army surplus store I know of is the one in downtown Kingston, sorry.
Hey Guys, im so in!! We need to list some cities here to decide what "Central" will be, Oshawa, Ontario for me. I can make it out for the weekend, fri-sat-sun, then its back to work. Also, if we find Crown land or someone with land as opposed to a campground it makes bushcraft easier, the campgrounds wont want us cutting the forest down around us. I have a site near the 401 and Newtonville road (google) but the road it is down is rough at the best of times, with this winter being so varied it is unpredictable.

Call_to_Arms , welcome to our camping idea . Here is the original thread you can read to see where everyone is . I'm out near Hawkesbury myself .

How large and wooded is your land in Newtonville ?

The area is around 1km by .6km of cedars and grasslands. I was out there today, the main road had a logging crew working on it, they warned us that after they had run the skidder up and down the road for a couple of hours no car would pass it. I drove up the road from the opposite direction which was frozen and very rutted.... at 8am. At 1pm we went to leave to find that the sun had thawed the ground and our cars were now buried up to the axles. I spent a considerable amount of time pushing a Dodge Caravan down a muddy road. The logging crew says they are going to be there for the next month, I dont think I am going to see my camp until spring.
Well that sounds like a good sized piece of land , but doesn't sound very heavily wooded for gathering wood for fires and learning bushcraft perhaps . But lets see what others say as well and what comes up .
