Nice axe. I traded mine as I just had no use for it. I didn't like the sharpness of the toe and heel. It chops real nice though.

It looks like he took a kukri and cut it and turned it into a seax but I'm not sure.

Minimal, but all business, looks good. What's the design logic with the spike, and the large cutout, weight reduction? I see how doing so creates the spike, but I was just curious if there was any other reasons. I like it, how well does it chop wood?

They are made by Daniel Winkler of Winkler knives. That particular hawk is the Sayoc Winkler hawk, it is available for sale through his web site. .

Here's another, less expensive option. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...-Tactical-Hawk!

There is nothing like the Winkler's, some are similar, but none are 3/8" stock, with a tapered tang. That's one reason they are expensive, they have the weight in the head and upper handle, and that equals power. I love mine, but they are not for everyone, nor should they be your first, or only hawk.

I just liked the head shape. I want a traditional hawk but I also want a combat efficient model. I like that one a lot but I don't know how much it is and am scared to find out.

More than weight reduction, it's space (width) reduction. I wanted to design a narrower head.

The idea behind that spike and its particular inclination is the same as on ony other hawk, plus the ability to use it for prying. Works great
