The polished surface is smooth, kinda like a varnished table surface. It's not as slippery as say the Gorilla glass panels on smartphones though.

I've had my Chokwe for 3 months now, and it is my favorite by far out of 20 Spydies and 1 Sebenza. It's that good. Check out http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...ame?p=10722545

I'm sorry, but I won't buy a knife unless it has awesome steel, even if it is a cool design.

People talking about the Chokwe. I've just kinda decided to collect knives in steel "other" than what is standard. Sorry, I know, that just came out of nowhere.

Chokwe is probably the smoothest opening knife I own apart from the CRKs, Hinderer or knives with a ball bearing pivot system. For a regular production knife, it's amazing.

It looks like Spyderco has a type of carbon fiber that looks like G-10. ? I'm sure the texture is not the same, but it looks just like it on some of those models.

That's Peel-Ply Carbon-Fiber and the surface texture is almost exactly the same as their G10.

Better really. For one thing, you can still see the CF pattern, although it's not as obvious as on the other styles. Plus, the resin used on the peel ply CF seems to stand up better to use than that on their G-10, so the texture doesn't smooth out with use. They also use two different pattern of peel-ply CF. The stuff on the US made knives has a checkerboard pattern, while that on the Japanese models has what I'd call a herringbone pattern.

No, it's not. It, and the rest of the CF handled knives made in Taiwan like the Chaparral and Terzuola SlipIt, have a surface texture that could best be described as basket weave. Looks kind of like a bulky knit sweater would look. Doesn't provide quite as much traction as peel-ply but provides a good be more than matte or glossy CF and, IMHO looks as good or better than glossy CF.
