I'm looking for a video camera with an external mic attachment preferred so I can set up on tripod for various projects... prefer hd but not opposed to sd either, really not ultra clear on the total disadvantage of sd..

Thought I'd ask you guys first before I stumble into best buy or the likes...

    thanks...

Look at the Sony Handycams. My wife bought me one recently and it is trail friendly, light weight and will function as a still camera or with the included software you can do frame grabs as jpegs. It also has a feature they call tele-macro that I have been experimenting with, that I really like. They make three versions, HDR-CX 130 is the one she gifted me, but they make two "better" ones a Cx160 and a CX 180. Read "better" as more expensive. The video out of the 130 is quite good, so I am not sure how fantastic the two better ones really are. I am quite pleased with the 130 and look forward to my next trip to the Shawnee National Forest.
The 130 model doesn't have a connection for external mike, so maybe the two higher models offer that feature.

I just checked in my manual and the two higher models have an external mike jack.
