    Forks OVER Knives?

Well I was fat sick and way tooo single and needed to make a change my fellow steel monkeys. I switched to a vegetarian based diet and lost about 35 pounds in 3 months and have about 25 more to go to get to my goal.
Any other vegan knife collectors in here?
Any guys want to stab me? lol JK

I am not against hunting or anything...guys the meat you get from that is WAAAAY better for you then the stuff in the grocery store and generally if you are a good shot you ill the animal more humanely. Plus anyone with the balls to do that and get in there with the guts and stuff really knows what they are eating.

However for the rest of us that live in populated state like New Jersey the food here is not too good for you.
So if you guys want any weight loss tips and want to dip into the abyss of feeling good, getting healthy and getting more Puntang in general pm me or leave a comment!

Also Tell me what knives you like to cut your fruits and veggies with.
I just ordered a few jus for that occasion one from Oleg Kremlin and another from Salem Straub

Watched the documentary/film and eat like that a lot of the time but eat a little of everything and will eat game meat without blinking an eye. I actually use my Large Vaquero Voyager a lot for fruits and veggies to check how I did the edge and for a little fun. My 2 year old boys and 3 year old daughter eat 95% fruits and veggies so cut them pretty often.

If your goal's weight loss you could go the opposite way and eat nothing but meats and fats (milk, cheese, ect.) and also lose a ton of weight. Called the keto diet or atkins I think. I prefer to go with a more balanced diet personally, Cave man diet where you only eat fruits, veggies, nuts, meats, and basically anything that your good ol cave man would have.

    "Paleo" Diet

Wife and I switched over to Paleo last Fall (basically the cave man idea).

Consequently we've ditched grains, starches, sugar, legumes (no bread, cake, rice, potatoes, peanuts, candy, etc.), dramatically reduced processed meats, and switched to fresh meats, fresh veggies (but not corn or peas), fresh fruits, and tree nuts. Also ditched dairy, including cheeses.

I don't follow it religiously, I will occasionally have a bagel, Tricuits, or cheese.

She's down 36 pounds, I'm down 16 pounds. She's a lot more faithful to the diet than I am. I'm just happy to be shopping for a new belt.

The influence this has had on my EDC selections is that I now always have a knife on my person suitable for (or at least capable of) making fresh salads at work. This typically means at least one blade of 3 inches or more, since slicing tomatoes and cucumbers is a lot easier with a 3+ inch blade.

Since I always carry a full-sized folder (in the three-to-four inch range) on my belt, I'm generally covered. However, given that I work in an office full of assorted geeks and admin types, I also try to have a "civilian friendly" pocket knife as well -- one having at least one blade in the 3+ inch range.

I've demonstrated in the past that I can make a salad with a Peanut, but that's a lot like work. A Sod Buster Jr. is a lot easier and quicker. a medium or large Stockman is also easier & quicker.

One of my favorite salad-friendly EDC pieces is a Buck 313 Muskrat. Friendly traditional knife with blades long enough for most things.

Part of my meal prep also involves cutting meat, since I usually bring a left-over piece of steak or roast (remember, lots of fresh meats). A sodbuster, stockman, or muskrat pattern works well for that.

A typical salad will by a fresh-sliced cucumber, fresh-sliced tomato, pre-cut bag-o-lettuce mix, and a fresh sliced bell pepper or two (though sometimes I will cut up the bell peppers the night before to save time at work). The salad prep takes several minutes, but the result is really nice.

And the comments? Mostly things like "oh, man, that smells good!" and a lot of "hey, that looks really healthy."

So far nobody at all has remarked on the knife I'm using to cut up the food. They're too busy being envious of the meal.

My wife and I have been doing similar. We eat probably 90% vegetarian and generally eat vegan meals twice a week. The only processed foods that we eat are Almond Milk, bread (because we haven't found a good recipe yet) Butter and some times potato/corn chips. We will typically only buy organic foods, unless we don't have the option.
Hydration is another important thing. For your body to function properly you need plenty of water in it. And vitamins of course. Every morning I will generally drink a litre or two of water before I do anything else.
We eat a lot of eggs (probably 6 or 8 dozen a month), fresh fruits and vegetables including lots of greens. We eat lentils, rice, oatmeal and beans. We bake our own biscuits, waffles, pancakes, bread, etc from scratch using organic ingredients and whole wheat flour.
Were working on setting up for laying hens and a new vegetable garden as well.
Also, most of the meat that we eat is from our friends and family who have cattle or raise turkeys, chickens etc so we know that it is not pumped full of hormones or antibiotics.

I like to use a Mora in the kitchen

Plus, this guy won't let me go vegan.

I'm not trying to become a vegetarian. I enjoy meat and don't see anything wrong with eating it (in moderation)
I eat a mostly vegetarian diet because of health and sustainability reasons.

This is about where I am, as well. I certainly won't give up meat; I think it's a healthy part of a balanced diet, and I love to hunt & fish. But like anything else, meat should be taken in moderation. Many of my meals contain little or no meat, and I generally try to eat wild game or at least properly farmed animals (no factory farms or hormone-pumped meat for me). Yes, I eat meat, but no, I do not need to have it in every meal.

To the OP: congrats on your new plan, and I'm glad to see it's helping you feel better.
For my veggie-slicing, if I'm going to use something aside from my kitchen knives, it's usually an Opinel No. 8, or a Queen Mountain Man. Those thin blades (Opie is flat-ground, and the Queen is thicker but also tall & flat-ground, and I've "convexed" the edge) really do a great job slicing.

Bread Receipt for Chris and other members

    My New York Sourdough

    First make a Sponge
    1 cup warm water
1 cup non-bromated unbleached bread flour
Mix well and let sit on counter for 3 to 12 hours. Mix in a Pyrex large mixing bowl and cover with a plate or bowl

    After sponge has fermented

    Into the sponge Add:
3 cups bread flour for white bread ...or....2 cups bread flour and 1 cup wheat flour for wheat bread
    1 Tbsp salt or less
    1 Tbsp sugar
    2 eggs beaten
    2 tsp Active Dry Yeast
    1 cup warm water
    Mix well
Let rise in Pyrex mixing bowl for an hour or until triple in size in a warmed oven (turn on oven and heat up (110 degrees) and turn off) ...or...outside, covered in the sun for you campers or if you don't want to heat up the house.
Remove from oven or inside after risen

Flour a cutting board and pour out bread onto floured board

Fold a few times ( 4 times from each corner ) onto itself with floured hands and turn over and roll into a ball

Put into a dutch oven ( 10.25 inch, 4 inch deep, 5 qt or Pyrex baking bowl with cover ) that has been oiled with olive oil with paper towel
Let rise in warm oven ...or... outside with cover on.....until just below the top of dutch oven

Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes
Remove the top and bake for another 30 minutes until browned and crispy

Remove and put on cooling rack to cool for 20 minutes..or just cut into it after 5 minutes and enjoy

Ok so well when I said 'I' I meant "my wife"
    And she didn't want to.
But she did make some other horrible beer bread. It makes a TERRIBLE sandwich. But next week, yes were going to try this one.

I've been using my Cold Steel Master Hunter in the kitchen a lot lately.

I recently saw this movie too. I followed a pretty strict veggie diet for a few weeks and though I did not lose weight, I felt good. I have introduced meat in moderation back into my diet, along with some good old fashioned exercise and I think the weight fall off naturally. As far as using a knife to chop my veggies, my SAK does the trick.

I try. I had a bunch of colon & small intestine removed in '09 (cancer) & try to eat well- as much as I can afford to. I'm on a pretty tight budget these days & fresh fruit & veg can get spendy. I don't do fast food at all anymore (with a couple of lapses in the past couple of years- on the road hungry & broke). If I pay attention to what I eat & really make an effort, I do feel markedly better in a matter of just a couple of days & my clothes fit better. (Being single again is also a big motivator.)

Vegetarian? I wouldn't stick my knife in you. Wait, this is Whine and Cheese, isn't it?
