I would just like to express my anger. As totalitarian and unconstitutional our "elected" leaders are, I can't direct all my rage at them. Their numbers are small, and without their minions they would not have any power.
What this means to me is,
-Police officers, stop following unlawful rules that invade our rights. (Unreasonable knife laws, concealed carry, drugs, arresting people because you were ordered to, etc.)
-Armed forces, stop fighting unjust wars. You are killing innocent people, you are the aggressor. You took an oath to the Constitution.
-TSA workers, you are despicable human beings and each one of you should be tried for treason.
-DEA agents, quit your job. The true drug related criminals will be done for without you trying to catch them.
We will end up like Nazi Germany, North Korea, China if our Constitution is not protected. Your job is not worth the demise of the country.
AND we could charge the family for the bullet like China does. All joking aside, while I don't think we should go as far as Norway which, according to the basic sentencing laws, cannot sentence that lunatic who murdered 77 people, mostly children, to longer than 21 years in prison (they might be able to keep him locked up if he is still a danger to society, but that is not a given even in a case like this), I do think that we have gotten into the habit of incarcerating way too many of our citizens. I read somewhere a while back that perhaps as many as 30% of all young American males will likely have some kind of unwanted contact with the criminal justice system before they turn 30. The Federal government is supposed to have limited powers, yet we now have 4500 criminal statues in the United States Code and that DOESN"T include the thousands of administrative rules promulgated by agencies that can also carry criminal penalties. Many of the newer laws have reduced the mens tea requirement to such a degree that in layman's, terms, you really don't even have to have any criminal intent in mind to be liable. A couple of years ago some old guy and his son were prosecuted for a Federal misdemeanor and drew 1 year probation and a $1500 fine because they were looking for arrowheads on Federal land.

I agree with your sentiments RC.
Don't get me wrong, I have great respect for the military, however, they should not be used for nation destroying and rebuilding for the benefit of large corporations and financial institutions.
Law enforcement, and I have a modicum of respect for the boys and girls in blue as it's one hell of a crap job, need to follow the laws they enforce. They also need to treat people with dignity, respect and to assume innocence rather than guilt (unless of course the situation calls for judement where lives are at risk from harm or death).
The TSA, they are glorifed rent a cops, used more for feel good politics and civil control than actually saving lives or stopping terrorists. I'd love to see a psyche evalutation done on every one of them, I'd bet a lot of money most would be classified as psychopaths and sociopaths. They are under trained, under paid and have too much power without public oversight.
As for drugs, I've never seen the point when beer and whiskey are so widely available. I don't have big issues with the wacky weed (just don't toke in front of me please), but hard drugs I agree have no place to civilised society. Dealers, pushers, growers and manufacturers need a long time of hard labor in the pokey.

We should just put all of those convicts to work... It would help Obama's abysmal jobless numbers. Chain gang's anyone? Put them to work on family farms doing chores since the government is about to pass new legislation which essentially says it's illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to have to do "chores" or join 4-H without first attending the proper Government run training classes.

So you're saying that China , Russia, and Mexico are better places to live? If not, what is the point of your comparison? I actually agree we have too many people in prison and I am tired of paying for them to live more comfortably than many on the outside. Limited work hours, laundry done, clothes and meals supplied, guaranteed ratio of recreational facilities per inmate - give me a break!
How about we go back to public whippings? Quick, cheap, and I guarantee it will make an impression - especially after the first time. Plus we could make some money on the broadcast rights to pay restitution to the victims and for court expenses. Not to mention the deterrent value of said broadcasts! It is also more humane in the long run - it happens and it's over - doesn't totally disrupt your life for months/years guaranteeing you lose your job and house. And, it hurts! Half the guys I grew up with looked at going to jail as "getting to take a break and hang out with the other half of their friends."
