edc backpack recommendations

I've been using an Osprey Quantum for about the last year, very well made pack, the only wear I can see on it is a little bit of the painted logo missing from the top handle, no stitches coming out, no fading, no small tears, and I take it with me every where every day, it has excellent organization as well, also Osprey has a great lifetime warranty. I'll have to do a review of mine sometime soon.

Go to Tactical Tailor and look at the URBAN OPERATOR BAG. Tough as nails and made in the U.S.A. My boy's bags are going on 5 years of school books and now welding school with not even a torn seam.

I've used a backpack instead of a briefcase for @ 30 years. The one recommendation I would make is get one with hip straps. I also look for one that has straps to reduce the pull on the zippers.

I've been using the Goruck GR2 for about 4 months now. I LOVE it. I use it for back and forth to work and as my carryon when I travel. Lots of storage options, built like a brick craphouse and Made in America, which is hugely important to me. The GR1 sounds more up your alley. I went with the GR2 because I am 6'7" 350, so normal packs look like kids packs on me. Now, GoRuck also sells smaller bags that MOLLE inside or out, but as they are about $100 each, and not worth it for the piddly features, that is where I would make the leap over to tactical Tailor for something like that. I have mine outfitted with 2 Tactical Tailor Nalgene holders, one on each side, and the admin pouch on the front. Moderately clunky so when I don't need that stuff, I run it clean.

GoRuck is $$, but you get what you pay for if you ask me. There are other nice USA made options out there, but I liked the simplicity of the GoRuck.

halm, i have a goruck echo on its way to my house as we speak. i'll check back in when it arrives with some thoughts, opinions and comparisons. i have high hopes for this one.

bo t, what's been your go to bag?

I use a lightweight pack @ 2000 cubic inches as an edc. My current bag is an Eddie Bauer (similar to the Adventurer). I expect it to last 5-7 years. I rarely pack more than 15 or 20 pounds with it. When I do I wish I had the hip support. My last pack, a JanSport, lost its main zipper at capacity (due to no straps limiting the tension on it).
I added an insert to my current bag to stiffen up the back and keep things from jabbing me. I would not want to take this pack on a medium or long hike. For the half mile or so that I carry it per day it works well. It has 4 compartments, external holders for 2 water bottles, and an external mesh holder for snacks or whatever. My pack is on the low end of the ones suggested but it is fully functional for its intended purpose.

dana design are nice and well thought out. I would figure out what features you want and then do a search. What works for some may not be suited to your needs.

heres my edc bag. its amazing how much "junk" i can manage to pack in it, and it gives me the option to pack a second pistol (as large as a Beretta 92) in the designated CCW pouch.

The Camelbak urban transport may be a bit larger that your looking for. You can always remove the hydration bladder. I think they make a great pack.

There are a lot of sweet packs on here, but when I was looking for my last pack I wanted inexpensive and durable with drink holders since I don't use a bladder setup. I settled with a 2000cu in. Kelty Range and its proven its self being stuffed every day carrying college books and my EDC junk for about 9 months so far. The nylon may seem light weight, but it doesn't tear and the stitching hasn't started to pull out of the shoulder straps (as I have seen before of other packs). I thought I would throw it in here since it can be had/found for $40 still (there not making them any longer as far as I can tell).

What Maxpedition did you try? I own a Condor 2. When I got it, I didn't really like it. Now, as I have continued to use it, it has grown on me. I love it now.

I find this with everything from Maxpedition. When I get it, I'm like meh, it's ok. Then it kind of grows on you. I use mine when I am out fishing, so the tough material works for me, but I can see being annoyed a little bit.

Have you checked out EMS bags. They are always nice.

I use a Northface Heckler Backpack. I opted for a less "flashy" pack and this suits me just fine. I carry some of the similar items you listed and they stow away in it alright.

I've used a NorthFace Surge for the last fiveish years and it still looks real nice. I went with the green as I don't lime the real bright colors. I easily will hold the items you listed. Normally i carry my work items (laptop, dayplanner, various pens, access cards, rsa fob, at least one computer book, big over the ear headphones, and a couple reading books, small FAK, two phones and other crap). It still maintains a low profile with room for more.

Id like to try one of these. I have the Aether 70, but it doesn't get used like it should

Now that's a bag! Now I need to figure out how to fund a $400 backpack! I have been trying to find the perfect carryall, and this looks to be it!
