Question Need to replace my LW D2 with something

    Hi Everyone

I use a Lone Wolf D2 for a EDC for 5 years now and I would like to pickup another one for EDC but they are tough to find now without paying a premium price if they can be found at all. If I could find another one for a good price I would get it.

So I was looking for some recommendations to replace it with something else more current.

What I like about the D2 is the non slip rubbery feeling handle, thumb stud manual release, the large almost 4" blade, the hidden auto release button and just the beefy size of the knife makes it easy to use. Not the prettiest knife out there but a great EDC useful knife.

Does anyone know of another knife that fits that bill ?

And I should mention I'm left handed which makes things even more difficult to find, even the D2 is a little tough to auto open left handed but I can mange.

I don't like Spyderco thumb hole opening, don't know why just don't

So any experts out their that have a few suggestions for a noob like me I would appreciate it.

    Thanks for any help

I can't think of anything in current production that meets all of your criteria "non slip rubbery feeling handle, thumb stud manual release, the large almost 4" blade, the hidden auto release button and just the beefy size of the knife"

The new Benchmade 2750 Adamas is the closest I can think of. It lacks the D/A feature. However, it is lefty friendly and actually a little "beefier" than the D2.

The Microtech Select fire is D/A, but the blade isn't as long as the D2 and it lacks the non-slip handle. The design of the blade and handle is love-it-or-hate-it and the price makes it somewhat impractical as a user.

I would look at the H&k scorch. The blade is a little shorter but its a benchmade product with a hidden scale release function. There is just not a lot of hidden release D/A's in production.

The D/A and lefty requirements are indeed a big obstacle.
Have you considered a Benchmade Axis auto? While not a D/A, they are ambidextrous and reasonably priced as higher-end automatics go. The Presidio even has a similar blade shape:

well, I too have been looking into getting a d/a scale release. the closest i found to what you want is the H&K Scorch like purpledc said. it's also pretty cheap. however, the n680 steel in it is no where near as good as your s30v steel in the d2. possibly explains the cheap price. besides that one, i wasn't too impressed with any of the other d/a scale release i saw while browsing the internet.

Now to go with what blais recommended, i have to say that while its not what youre quite asking for, it's an awsome alternative. The price might be a little high for what you are thinking at around 180-200 range. the grip isn't rubbery but metal instead but it's grip is just as good as one with rubber due to it's design. The steel in it is very good, pretty close to the s30v that you're used to (made by same company also), but sharpens a little bit easier. the auto axis locking mechanism is smooth and fast. the spring is perfect, just strong enough to open up fast but not too strong to where it'll fling out of your hand. i'm the type of person who is turned off by a weak auto spring.

well. good luck on finding a replacement (if you haven't already). if you have, you can still consider one of our recommendations for down the road. and please share your new purchase. like i said, i'm also interested in getting a d/a.
