Silly economic issues? Not even in my top 50 things to worry about.
So, to celebrate maybe having not that many years of life left, and having a minimum wage job despite a college and a university degree, and a debt load 3 times what I'll make this year, I bought a new scale for my 0551 today.

    That's optimism at play.
Yowch! Well let's hope that with advances and medicine and hopefully your being aware and taking care of yourself you won't have to worry about continuing the family trend! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you anyway. I can certainly see much more immediate problems like that being more of a concern for you then worrying about some nebulous "bad things might happen."

Cutting wood and working with wood heat provides good exercise.
Time to have that talk with the wife again...

    I appreciate it.
I've cut alcohol and tobacco out of my life for some years now, and get to the gym on a rather regular basis. I also try to eat things which count as actual food.
I guess that's what I'm doing to prepare.
Buy my book! Amazon: Kindle: Barnes and Noble:

Go to the gym, work out, go to the range, practice, and maintain a basic load of water, food and small arms ammunition. Plus, I find laughter while reading about those who think they will find fuel for their 40KW generators.....The sound of an operating generator will attract zombies, if the SHTF.....
Meanwhile, let us pray for peace, and elect those who work for it. The old radical, Dwight D. Eisenhower, warned us about the military industrial complex. Well, we have one. If you do not believe that, you should spend more time reading the real news, and point your nose away from the TV. Too many Americans do not know the names of the president of Mexico or the Prime Minister of Canada, but know all about the Kardashians....
Thought for the day: Perhaps we should require our elected politicians to wear uniforms, like the NASCAR drivers. Then we could read the patches and find out who they really work for...

I liked Ike then and I appreciate him even more now. Watch this video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuwtG9dL-CM

And watch the documentary, "WHY WE FIGHT". It's an eye-opener.

I predict an Armageddon in this thread
I will get barraged with "must see!!" videos on Youtube
I guess I am supposed to learn "what is REALLY going on" from a 4 minute video by a guy peddling Krugerrands
Then the terms "sheeple", wake up" and "TPTB" will come next
The final blow will be when fans of a Texas politician will arrive
Then it will get moved to The Political Arena..............

    *************************************************
    I'm a semi prepper
It gives me an excuse to buy toys so I can play Rambo (GPS, guns, walkie talkies, lasers, night vision goggles, commando boots by Converse, etc.)
I have enough food to last me about 3 weeks (there is a water well out back)
I have "survival Rubbermaid container" in the back of my truck In case I get stranded out on some road in Southern Colorado
I collect knives and hatchets to kill the Zombies, so I'm good there
I think I have a some gold jewelery lying around so I can trade them for eggs with the chicken farmer down the road, if need be
I have a gas mask I got off of EBAY hanging in my living room
I need to stock up on Marlboros
That is my greatest concern when The Armageddon comes
Having nicotine withdrawals when the world is ending would not be pretty.... )

    <slaps forehead> Marlboros! I can't believe I hadn't thought to stock up on MARLBOROS!!

I've got pretty much everything else covered (fuel, food, guns, ammo, knives, claymores, etc.) but I hadn't thought about all those ciggy fiend's who'll be jonesing for a butt and will trade their first-born for a pack! Trent, you're a life saver.

    Off to Ciggy's-R-Us I go!

(seriously... I added a few more survival-type books to my kindle... that's about it.)

Also coffee and toilet paper make good trade goods, and probably alcohol too. I've considered laying a stock of booze, cigarettes and coffee for just that reason although I don't use any of those things. I don't though, because I keep telling myself I'm NOT preparing for the zombie apocalypse.

I am investing in canned goods and ammunition, and I'm helping my girlfriend build a cabin in the mountains.

I don't know about most men but when my wife says "honey, we need to talk" I get that doomsday is approaching feeling.

Pretty much this. I just got custody of my son and opened a case against child support to stop it.

Keep discretionary purchases to an absolute minimum. Maintain the old stuff (newest car is a 2000 model) until it makes no sense to
keep it any longer. Paid off the house 5 yrs ago and reduced the debt structure to as little as possible with all credit cards paid off
every month. Moved a lot of cash from banks to our credit union. Live off my wife's income while banking mine.

Still need to do better in food/water storage as we're not all that great in rotating the stock to prevent waste. I firmly believe the
big crash will be in 2013-14 sometime so hopefully we have a while yet to address the deficiencies.

Sounds like you are a bit further down the path I am trying to follow. Good on you!
