    Update!

OK that magical time has come! The blades are back from heat treat! Over the next few days I will be hand sanding these bad boys to perfection. I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Here they are fresh out of the oven. Some scale and a slight pink tint. RC 61 verified.

Here I sand blasted them and they look BEAUTIFUL!

Thanks guys! I'm all covered in steel powder and sand... time to go to bed. 3V is NO JOKE when hardened.

Here is something anyone who has sanded hardened steel can relate to.

I've just gotta say again how excited I am to get this. It has been awesome to witness the progress throughout. I've already got an awesome plan for a comparison pic of the TiTAN with a new knife I just got today

Afters last nights 36 grit frustrations I melted away all my problems with my favorite tool, the Non-Woven Norton Bear-Tex belt. The medium belt is about a 120-150grit and it makes everything so smooooth, no burrs and no random gouges. I also polished up the bearing pockets to make the flipping even better.

Haha, I can't remember who said it, I think it was James Terrio, but here it is:
I try to put a near final finish on 3V before HT because once it is hardened, hand sanding 400 grit scratches out of it quickly becomes a day long screaming bitchfest!

    Have fun!

Well today was a lovely mix of accomplishment and me cursing. Got a ton of reaming done to get the pivots just perfect, no slop, just a silky interference fit. I also drilled out the ball detent holes to spec. I set up my tapping station to tap the titanium to accept the 4-40 flat head screws that fit the standoffs and pocket clip in place. All holes are drilled with a #43 single fluted carbide bit, to spec. Added a little tapping lube aaaaaaand SNAP!

Broke the damn tap. I took a breath got out my extra rainy day 4-40 taps aaaaand SNAP. Broke 3 before I gave up. Thank GOD this is titanium and all I have to do is soak the handles in FeCl overnight to dissolve those little bastards out.

I jumped on McMaster-Carr and rush ordered 3 Cobalt Steel Spiral Flute Taps (I better not break these they cost $35 a piece) I also ordered solid carbide #42 and #41 drill bits to open up the tapping hole a tiny bit and stop breaking my damn taps. Now all I have to do is re drill 60 holes. Well some days are better than others.

I have a feeling these fancy taps and a larger hole will conquer this problem ASAP.

Don't feel bad for me. Pity that petulant broken tap that is screaming in agony currently covered in caustic acid.
