Call and ask your tax agency and see what rules apply to your country. Afaik I can order stuff <$100 without having to pay anything extra, either than or I've just been lucky with it slipping through customs. Everytime I've ordered something more expensive it's been stopped. If the person you're buying from in the states hasn't marked the package as being worth a lot of money, it'll usually go through unnoticed. You get the idea.

It depends on how much the knife costs and the regulations in your country.

    No problem!

  9. Knife laws are non existent for blades except when used in a fight or similar type of situation in Slovakia. I am from Cali, but I own more knives and types which are illegal in NY and CA and this used to be a COMMIE country! Wake up fellow Americans!

I also support a Euro Knife exchange section.

For me, living in Switzerland, "world-knives" are hard to come by. I don't think it's cheaper, tax- or postage-wise, for me to buy from within the EU than from the USA. I order most of my european knives straight from the manufacturer when ever possible and my US knives from reputable American online dealers and the extra costs seem comparable. Presumably however EU to EU this would make a lot of sense. But in the BF, I've often wanted to buy a knife and haven't been able to because of "CONUS only". I don't see why this should be if I pay in advance and carry the risk of postage loss. If a european exchange area would mean that I could gain access to second hand Striders, CRKs etc and especially to custom knives I've not had access to so far then im all for it.

It's unlikely to mean that, unfortunately, as all participants would have to be in Europe, as explained in post 35

A separate trade subforum for us Europeans would not open up a new market, ie, there would be no offers of second hand Striders that you wouldn't see on the regular trade forum. The one real advantage would be that all trades offered there would automatically be by, from and for Europeans, which means that the question of shipping to and from Europe becomes moot. So if a knife is offered there, it would be safe to assume the seller would ship to Switzerland, or Holland. Conversely, if you're selling, only other Europeans should bother to reply.

I don't follow you train of thought. European forumistas will have/trade/sell second hand Striders and CRKs as well as their more local Klötzlis, Fälknivens and so on. I doubt many of us only own knives from our "own" continent.

I think I understand your point but believe you are missing mine. The problem, to me, isn't so much shipping and taxes (many European Knives are cheaper ordered from the states anyway) as it is the "CONUS only" issue. The regular forum is (often, not always of course) a playground I can watch but not play in.

I thought that was the main idea. To open a new access resource from US knife collectors and dealers to European collectors, trade between Euro countries is just an added bonus Euro collectors can share in this new forum. I too hate having to just look longingly at the classifieds. LOL

I didn't miss it, in fact, I entirely agree with it. What I am saying is that no new deals are likely to occur because of a European trade-only forum, it just makes the existing ones easier to find.

That was the intention of the OP but according to post number 35 that's not the way it will work as all participants would have to be in Europe.

There is already a thriving exchange in the main European forum where Striders and CRK's are bought and sold. I don't see the advantage of Europeans trading in a separate, sub-forum to a US forum. How does this bring anything new?

A thriving exchange?? I haven't been here for long and maybe I'm missing something but as far as I can see this European subforum is only vaguely existent (at least until this thread was started). I count 13 threads in the past year and not one of them was a knife offer. Or aren't you referring to BF? I'm honestly confused by your statement and wonder what I've been missing...
