Oil will not help you. Can you get a drill into the end of the screw ? Drill size a bit less than the minor diameter of the screw. Once you drill just slightly deeper than the center punch has expanded the screw it should come loose easily.
Hi,
I recently purchased a used, Sears Roebuck-branded Marlin 336. Wanting to take it fully down, I noticed that previous owner, who apparently had never heard of Lok-Tite, had peened the end of the carrier screw with what appears to have been a center punch. I can't get this screw loose. I didn't have much time, so I didn't shoot it with any Break Free or Kroil, but I'm concerned that I may not be able to get this thing out. Any ideas on how I can get this thing out without destroying the threads in the receiver? Thanks.
I guess I should clarify - the end of the screw opposite the head, that is the end that you can see by looking on the left side of the receiver - someone must have placed a center punch on this side of the screw and whacked it two or three times. The face of the receiver is not visibly disfigured.

This work is best done with a mill or EDM. What you're doing is removing enough metal from the screw so that the remaining materiel will compress inward to match the thread diameter as it's withdrawn. You'll need to have a new screw available to replace it once that one is withdrawn.
