Finally...

I own an American Classic! I have a ton of KaBar Beckers, but haven't owned any actual KaBars...until this last couple weeks.

Moose was kind enough to sell me this lil guy



and I really like it, great design and a useful EDC blade.



But that didnt satisfy my urge to own a KaBar...

but today the mail came, and I finally scratched that itch.









The mighty 1217!




This is about as American as Apple Pie and Colt 1911s. I loves it.

I do have one question

this came to me ''used'' but looks NIB, but there is a odd mark on the pommel, looks too perfect to be an accident...is this a hardness testing mark? It looks like a machined ''dimple''.

Nice knives. I think the mark is a pin that holds the pommel on by going through the tang.

Exactly what it is. Mines black though? But then again mines a good 2-3 years old so maybe they changed.

Thanks! After looking closer, it is indeed a pin not a dimple. Makes sense, I knew it was too perfect to be a mark from say a fall or hit. good stuff

Steppin to the darkside huh... If you want the handle darker use sno seal, it also a great way to protect the leather washers too. Nice pickup. I need one of those TDI's and a Potbelly real soon too.

A classic useful tool. Take some fine grit sandpaper and go over the leather handle a little and slather the snow seal very heavy then hit it with a hair dryer until melted. let it cool and take off the excess. If you saturate the pores of the leather with wax, dirt/blood/water can.t really get in.

Thin the edge back for better slicing/carving.

This will be a display I think, I dunno. I wanted one just to ''have'' one. I have other knives to beat up. I may just admire this one, and appreciate all the servicemen who carried it while defending my freedoms. I would love an ARMY version too, to honor my Father's service.

I especially like that orange TDI. In years past I always regarded the TDIs as purely defensive knives but after seeing a close friend and then you use these knives in a more utilitarian fashion I'm beginning to rethink their usefulness.

The TDI is a great design, I shared your ''oh it's a defense knife? I aint sure I need that'' attitude for quite awhile. Then I got one in my hand, and figgered out it works pretty well for a ''normal'' knife too! Also, Moose swears it's very handy for dressin out deer...so I gave the knife a chance. Glad I did, I really enjoy it.

...and I am sure it would work great for it's intended purpose too, very user-friendly...no skills necessary. Grab the TDI, make a fist...punch and flail like a madman.....every time you punch or hit the ''bad guy'' it is with a couple inches of sharp blade. I am certain 30 seconds of flailing with the TDI would leave them in a semi-hamburger state.

yeah, I resisted/ignored the urge to get a 1217 for some time till I gave in...it inspired me to start making leather washer handles, and like you say it's more of an admiring thing, haven't really used it much and I think it's gonna end up hanging on a wall.

Very nice. over the years Kabar has came out with alot of great knives
