What are your favorite wildflower books? My interests are primarily East of the Mississippi, but really enjoyed the Texas wildflowers when I lived there.

I recently picked up one by Jack Carman, Wildflowers of Tennesee which pretty much covers wildflowers for most of the Southeast where I spend the majority of my time. It is organized by family versus color which makes it sometimes difficult to find what you are looking for, if you have no clue. I stopped my woods photo trips for a number of years and it is really amazing how quickly my memory got fuzzy on identification. I never worried about the small variations in species so much as getting the basic flower ID correct.

Others ones that I like are: The Petersons guides are always good and they help when you have no idea what the flower is since they are organzied by color rather than family. The Audubon guides are easy to use and good. The Arkansas book is very good by Hunter. But I believe there is a new Arkansas book out.

In the past, one of the things I did was search out wild flower books and I generally purchased just about every different book I found. I have slacked off in recent years on that pursuit.

Do you label your photos on your hard drive by subject or do you just leave them grouped on the date you shot them? Since I am beginning to accumulate more and more digital pictures, I am starting to think I may want to upgrade my labeling.

Thanks for all your helpful replies. I thought more of you would be interested and share your opinions. I have not come up with an adequate photo filing system that are retrievable.

A long time ago I used cumulus database software. I got away from it when I upgraded my computer and they no longer supported a consumer version on the Mac. I wish I had switched to a new system right away. Now it would take some work to catch up. I use bridge almost exclusive now, it has all the features I need for cataloging. I just need to use those features.

What kind of catagories do you use? Are the photos linked to mulitple catagories?

With regard to the wildflowers, well, I'm probably the only one who's interested or doesn't know every one.
