Orange 0550 / 0551 Scales getting scarce?

So I've got a 0551 on the way (finally) and I started looking around at either Hinderer's scales or Monkey Edge's Frag scales in Orange but it looks like there aren't a lot in-stock right now. I was going to post a WTB ad, but saw that another member already posted one (and I don't like to crap on other member's ads).

This got me to wondering... Is this a one-time thing or are more possibly on the way? I can settle for another color, so I'm not panicked, but Orange seems to be very popular (understandably - I love it), but I definitely want some color in this thing.

Is this something that KAI will ever offer in-house?

i have a monkey edge frag one for my 0550 and you are probably referring to my WTB post for the Hinderer version. i have been looking for over a month and have not been able to find them in stock anywhere. it would be good business to make some more because i would love to add a 0551 to my collection, but i gotta have the orange scale first.

Well crap - that's not good news. And yeah man - I just went over to the WTB section and saw your ad and thought "well, if he can't find one, then I probably won't have good luck".

Might have to go to a custom-scale if the price is right. Otherwise, it's going to be another in-stock color.

Just bought a used 0551 that I can carry and not worry about. I want an orange scale as well, but also saw the WTB ads and figured the same. An orange scale is the only one I want. May shop around for a custom with the same caveat as EZB "if the price is right" but I want a frag scale bad and hope they make more.

I have the same problem, I purchased a 0551 and when I tried to find a frag orange scale no luck... I may just go all out and the carbon fiber scale.

Don't wait on Monkey's edge.....I waited a while for a OD green to come "in stock", but it never did. So I contacted Phillip Dobson......

Thinking the Red Monkey Edge Frag is going to have to do it for now. I like Red and don't currently have anything wearing red scales, so I'll do that while I'm waiting on someone to pump out more orange scales.

BTW, got this 0551 in today (it's a new one with the laser-cut lock bar). Holy crap - I waited too long to get one of these.

I've got a 0551, but I just ordered the red Frag scale today. I'll post up pics when I get it on the knife.

I have got to find one of those Hinderer scales! I love my Frag one, but I really like the way the "traditional" Hinderer texture fits the 055X design as well. I feel bad neglecting all my other knives to carry the 0550, but it certainly does get the most pocket time, usually backed up by a Skyline.

I cant believe i still dont have a 55x. So frag scales are still available just not in orange? And the fit both the 550 and 551? Where can one find them?

0551 looks good in its new clothes. They appear to change color in different light.

That red is nice. Im leaning towards blue right now. Anyone know of a how to thread for using a 9mm round as the lock bar stabilizer?

I talked with the Hinderer folks at Blade - they said they'd make more cf 0551 scales in a bit. I thought about it a bit - I have a new spare 0551 - but, with s/h, that would be over half what the knife cost me. I keep asking myself what improvement that would make - and I cannot justify it. I bought the 0551 because I liked the whole package - including the neat scale. Of course, I love the cf on my Kershaw SW Tilt! - and on my only other cf scaled knife, my Benchmade 480-1. Maybe I'm just cheap! I have to admit, having the ability to choose the brown 0561 over the black 0560 was nice... are you listening, Kershaw? Hmmm, more 0551's in Elmax but sporting cf... that would be nice!

Who am I kidding? A 'gecko green' (or 'alien green'), a la my wife's new Wrangler Unlimited, would peak her interest...

Or Brown scales on a 0550 would be nice. Can't call it a 0551 though. The 0561 being the same but with just brown scales still blows my mind. 0560 brown, blue, green, tan, or what ever color would have work just fine.

Anyone know if the aftermarket titanium hinderer standofs will fot a 551? Ilove the way the 551 comes but iv always been someone who likes to add my own touch to things.
