Unions Won Us a LOT.

I have been a police officer for some time now and have never belonged to a union. Yes, there is added exposure that comes with the job, but I knew that going in, and being sued is one of my lesser worries, personally.
I agree with bulgron that if a chief or sheriff fires me over a legitimate arrest, I am better off not working for him anyway.
It's fairly easy for certified officers to find work anyway.

Unlike much of the rest of the USA the police on my island is the only show in town. We don't have city, and county and state police. We have one island wide department so to leave would mean going to another island, not something I want to do.
Personally I am not worried about being sued, I don't tend to offend many people as I treat people well.
But I am not everyone's favorite person, for various reasons good and bad I suppose, and I wouldn't want that to get me unjustly fired.

I think Unions may often be a necessary evil. Sometimes more necessary sometimes less or potentially not at all.

Apple is producing their processor chips for the iPhones and iPads in the US at the recently expanded Samsung plant in Austin, Texas. I do believe Texas is a "right to work' state. BAD Apple!!!!!

Apple is a cult. They'd work there for free, and sell body parts too if they were asked to.

But, seriously, if you're working a retail job, and you're trying to live on it, you're a chump. Retail is for entry-level workers. You're supposed to realize that it doesn't pay enough, and then go on to do bigger and better things.
