You might want to read and browse around in the automatics subforum.

I am also just getting into OTF's and the general consensus was that if I liked them and wanted to spend the money on one to get one. So I did. I bought a Microtech Ultratech and absolutely love it. So much so I am looking for another OTF. I do EDC the UT (make sure it's legal!) as a light use knife and generally carry a smaller more people friendly knife to accompany it. While I really like the knife it is honestly more of a toy for me. I bought it because I always thought they were cool and I love the way they look. I will heartily suggest the Ultratech and have also been looking at the HK Tumult. I say if you like them and have the money to spend on one, go for it. If you decide you don't like it you can always put it in the trader forums here, they go quickly used.

I have a OTF, but they are not great knives. Too much play in them even the $$$$ ones. I like knives built like tanks. Some auto's (side) are way more solid and better built.
