    ASP Baton Concealment

This is the first time I have been carrying my ASP 21" baton in warm weather. Usually I just put it in my jacket pocket, but now I have to be more creative with my carrying methods. Some of my pants have front pockets big enough to hide the whole thing but this doesn't always work and isn't that comfortable. I have also tried just stuffing it in the front of my pants with the leverage cap but this requires me to constantly adjust it throughout the day. Do any of you have good methods or holsters you recommend? It needs to be totally concealed, as batons aren't exactly legal to carry where I live but I feel like I need something until I can get a handgun carry permit, and I really would rather defend myself with a baton than a knife.

    Thanks

You need to be careful dude. If you use an illegal weapon in SD, you can get into just as much trouble as the attacker if not more

If carrying a baton is illegal where you live, you should be a bit careful about asking about how to conceal it, since posting about illegal activities is not exactly ok at the forums:

Ok, I just feel like getting in trouble defending myself is still better than the serious harm or death that could happen to me if I can't use a weapon for defense. If this thread is against the rules please take it down, I didn't think it would be an issue.

Rather than an ASP baton how about a walking stick? Totally legal and protected under the ADA.

Jonahernst, It's more than just trouble bud.

You know well that weapons can severly injure, maim and kill.
If you you severly injure someone with an illegal weapon the courts can easily decide you were guilty and award damages to your attacker

If you kill with an illegal weapon you can easily be charged with man slaughter or 2nd degree murder.
Should that happen, you stand a good chance being locked with men who like listening to YMCA or It's Raining Men (to put it politely) while your inncocence is prove or not.

Even if you get out of both, there's still the major inconvenience of lawyer fees and court proceedings.
Yes, they do sometimes happen even with legal weapons being used.
However using an illegal weapon puts extra unneccesary black marks on your case and also potentially becomes a DA's candy store

If you want a good weapon to conceal one option is a mini maglite.

They hit with the power of a kubotan but are also perfectly legal where ever you go and not classed as a weapon. Also it is something you will use often in every day to day life

    Ever heard of Bernie Goetz?

Even if a court only convicts you of an A misdemeanor for criminally possessing a weapon, it's going to mess you up. Rikers Island is no fun. You're probably more likely to have the baton fall out of your pocket/down your pant leg than need it. NYC being what it is, you're better off carrying a legal force option. Pepper spray and a Surefire 6P would make a great (and easily concealable) combo.

I never found a good way to carry a 21" ASP in hot weather. I needed a jacket or a sweatshirt to hide it in a way that worked. I used a Bladetech ASP holder attached to my belt.

BTW isn´t it very hard to get a CCW in New York unless your name is Bill Cosby?

I carried one of those on and off for close to 10 years, they suck. Mine was an ASP in 18" IIRC. They are heavy and uncomfortable. I lived in a much worse area than I do now and once I moved I traded it off. I had a pair of military surplus cargo shorts with a sewed pocket within a pocket and it rode in there perfectly.

These should be easier to conceal, but I have to wonder if they're too light to get the job done:

Uncle Mikes large frame IWB. For even better carrying you can sew it ti fit the ASP.

@ average gimp. Nope, they are awesome, the p16 in particular. I was going to reccomend them. They have a more expensive version called the agent that has a better locking mechanism. The important part is that the striking portion is steel which gives it a great top heavy feel, and your hitting with the heavier metal. Great design, I actually wonder why it took them this long. If you can legally do so I also recommend the Monandnock autolock Jr, great little tool.

  14. maxpedition horizontal holster. At the belt line, at 11 o'clock. Long tee shirt or button up shirt with tails out.

    Best I've found.

A cane is legal, and will not get you arrested. It is also large enough to do some good damage and is easy to retain on your person. A little training and you can do no better less going to a firearm.

Dude . . . you are in NYC. Do not carry an illegal ASP baton in NYC. You may as well have nunchaku or a machete . . . same charge. Oh, and NYPD can stop and frisk you at any time without cause. This will entail them dumping out your backback on the sidewalk, pulling all your pockets inside out, and making you take off your boots.

But if you really want to conceal it well . . . tie a lanyard to one end and smear the other end in petroleum jelly. NYPD will not search there unless you're already in custody.

Good luck getting a NYC pistol permit. They issue them to politicians, celebrities, jewelers, and bankers . . . which are you?

Move out of NYC. Move out of NY. They actually have this thing called "freedom" in PA and VT which are close by.

I guessed as much - nothing has changed in NYC.

As a former NYC resident and a New Yorker for life...don't do it, especially if you aren't white. TYR's right, it's an A misdemeanor. You'd get hit with the same charge as carrying an unloaded handgun.

You don't have a chance at getting a CCW unless you know someone in NYC. If you have a CCW, expect to get freaked out on / damn near shot by the police prior to proving it if you are ever seen concealed carrying a firearm. They *do not* expect citizens to have CCWs. Don't take the subway, you don't have rights to not consent to searches there. Don't carry knives with pocket clips (100% conceal or nothing), and if you ever get caught with a knife on you, expect to get charged.

    Follow these steps:
Don't speak to the police. Don't explain yourself. Don't speak to the police. Don't speak to the police. Make sure that you don't consent to a search (do nothing to resist, simply state that you don't consent). Get a lawyer immediately, contact kniferights.org, get ready to pay money.

I believe the ASP to be an ill concieved weapon for use by citizens. Most police suck using it and they at least get a little training.- George
