Can I help this widow?

I recently met a lady who just lost her husband. He was an artist who did glass blowing and sculpture. He, as a sideline, made kilns and forges. Well all his supplies are sitting in his workshop and she needs to get rid of everything so she can relocate. I told her that I would see if I could offer these materials here, and try to get her some money to help her out. My question is can I do this for her with my current level? It is a considerable amount of materials (insluwool, fire brick, and kiln/forge bodies). I am not a dealer and would not be restocking anything after it was sold, I will not be marking it up, nor will I be making any profit from this. I am just trying to help someone out. I understand that this is a tricky situation, as others have probably abused this type of thing before, and I just want to be able to tell her yes I can help, or no I can't. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your response. I thought that might be the case. I will let her know and they can go from there. What membership level should I recommend to her? I just want to try and help her. She was super kind to me by giving me some supplies I needed and I am just trying to give her a hand. Thank you again.

Tough question. The Items she would have for sale would most likely need to be sold in the For Sale: Knifemaking Supplies & Tools forum, which she would need a knifemaker subscription to access.

Probably your best help would be to help her catalog and price everything and place and ad in a newspaper or craigslist or the like.

Believe me, we would like to help those in need, but if we allowed this type of thing as a matter of course we would probably be inundated.

An alternative would be a sort-term Dealership. As Karda says, catalog, write up the ads, get ready to go, then buy a Dealership and post them here. One year $200, or one month $75. If it goes to 2 months, you might as well go annual.

Catalog and price them at what you think they will honestly bring on the Exchange. Find a price she is willing sell you the whole lot at. 50-60% would be a normal range. Buy them from her at that discounted price and then sell them yourself on Exchange - Knifemaker Supplies forum.

Don't forget that you will need to pack and ship a lot of big and heavy boxes, so consider Craig's list first.
