I have been kinda wanting to try one of these and found a new for $80. Since I am on a very tight budget, divorce, should I try one? Is the blade to thick? Wonder if the handles are comfortable?

I'd try it for 80 - just to see if it was worth it.

This is my go to knife at this point. $80 is a great deal

The blade is thick , but not 1/4 or anything. I wanted something in the middle of 1/8 to 1/4 so this was the answer for me. So the question is are you the thin blade kind of guy that doesnt want to baton or chop at all, then get a 1/8. If you want a mega brute chopper that wont slice that well but can hack away, get a 1/4 monster. And if you want something in the middle there get a 3/16 or 5/32 thick blade. They come very sharp as well

The handle is one of its best features. Very comfy to hold in any of the many ways to grip a knife.

I'd love for them to release a "lite" version in 1/8". I prefer thin blades for scandis. Otherwise looks pretty rockin'.

It just so happens that there will be a much lighter, thinner 1/8" scandi, non-coated from TOPS coming soon!

I got the knife Friday. So far, all I have to say is ONE FINE KNIFE. The handles are very comfortable. I have not cut alot with it yet. I cut some branches and it would just pop them off. I sharpened some very hard tobacco sticks to use to tie my tomatoes up. I thought the knife was dull, I don't think the knife was really dull, but I decided to strop it a dozen times on a leather strop. It would then pop hairs off your arms. It came razor sharp from the factory. I also liked the sheath. You can carry the knife in many different ways. I carried it horizontal crossdraw and it worked real good. I had my single action on my strong side. So far I can't find any negative thing to say about the knife and for sure it is a keeper. Want to try it on gutting and skinning and see how it does. Wish talfuchre would do a review.

Maybe so, that's why I designed it.

Ah hell, not sure how long exactly it's been out, but the Pasayten that Steve Dick designed has been out for some time now, and it's 1/8"

The trick is getting them, and a lot of other companies to measure between 1/8 and 3/16...I like 5/32.

1/8 is fine for small knives and for whittling chickens (a UK bushcraft thing...), I just like over-built whittling knives that have a little more backbone

But I am looking forward to seeing your design RB

Oh, and as for the OP, I really like the look and feel of the BOB knife. Haven't used one but I find the handle to be one of the most comfortable TOPS handles I've held so definitely plan to get one later to try out in the bush.

Does anyone know if the plastic clip on the chain has anything to do with fire starting? It was connected to the fire starter that came with the knife.

Not aware of a plastic clip that comes with them. It's not a TOPS whistle is it? Most of their knives come with one of those. Got a pic?
