Took the dogs up a nearby hill today. Came across a few unusual sights on the hike, one being this tree with barb wire running through it. I've come across this before but never as close to the centre of a tree this large !

And straight out the other side~

Found lots of these Menzies larkspur (Delphinium menziesii)~

Very pretty but very poisonous !!!

Eventually we made it to the top~

Maisy had quite the pant going on !

Snicker could have ran up and down a dozen times !

On the way back down I came across this guy~

Snicker had a nose to nose with him but after some prompting by me she let it go on it's way !

I'm not sure exactly why but as I get into the Summer months I tend to carry smaller knives such as my ML Survivalist today. Anyone else found they do the same ?

Came across this small nest that must have been blown out of a tree, it would have made some great tinder !

I made sure to let the girls cool off in the lake on the way back.

Barb wire through a tree? I have never seen anything like that before. That is very cool. Thanks for the pictures. That snake looks very much like a red nose gardner snake. I'm nearly certain that it is.

Barbed wire through a tree. I've seen trees with barbed wire making large dents in them, but going straight through isn't something you see everyday. Thanks for sharing.

    Hey Pit,

Great to see you and the girls out as always. How do you like your Army SAK. I went and got the one handed Trekker because I didn't want to go the serrated route. I love mine. I also recently got a SAK farmer because of the positioning of the awl for throwing sparks. It is a bit more to open than my one handed Trekker.

I too like to smaller in the summer, given I'm wearing shorts. However, when I'm fly fishing for trout, I normally take my ESEE 3.

Thanks for the kind comments buddy.

I love the Army SAK, I was also hesitant about going the serrated route but caved in because I liked the look of the knife so much. In actual use I haven't really noticed the serrations making a difference other than when cutting tough cordage and carpet during which they are a real bonus ! When I'm carving trap notches etc I'm using the section of blade closest to the handle which isn't serrated.
I actually prefer to use the Can opener for striking a fire steel more than using the Awl !!!

I need to try that. I have never given that a thought. Thanks, pal.

I love that ML knife! Well, I seem to say that about all of his work, but your Survivalist looks good in it's natural environment.
