Just messing around with some scrap materials, I came up with this:

The strop is a strip of leather glued to a plank of basswood. What makes it different is the ceramic rod contained within the plank.

I fashioned a grip for the ceramic rod from basswood, glued it together with some Gorilla Glue, then drilled a storage hole for it next to the offset strop handle. The rod is held in place by a small rare earth magnet that makes contact with the head of a nail. The magnet is mounted in the plank, while the nail is in the ceramic rod's grip.

Rare earth magnets are good and strong! As seen here, I tested it over my specially trained stunt cat. All parts remained secure, and no injuries were reported.

Rough work, for sure, but this is the prototype. I plan to make the next one a little nicer.

My friend: That's a phenomenal idea!!!
    I carry this

Almost always with me, as you can see is a fallkniven DC4 and a double sided handmade leather strop one side with polishing compound) but with the ceramic rod I could refine the edge to a higher level, I don't know when I'll have some time but I'll try a pocketable prototype for sure,
Thank you very much for the invention.
P.S. where did you get the ceramic rod??

Thanks, Lutejones! I like your set up there as well. The ceramic rod I used here is 3/8" diameter, by 4 1/2" long. I picked it up from Ragweed Forge, but I'm sure similar ceramics can be found all over.
