Italian craftsmanship, and what would you like to see in an SR-1?

Just received the Bronze SR-1 yesterday, and it is fantastic. Even though I already have a SR-1-V, I've wanted the bronze also. I just want to say that the craftsmanship in these knives is superb! It works like a fine piece of equipment should work. When closed the blade is perfectly aligned within the handle, and when you open it, the blade glides out, but has very good resistance so that it doesn't open on itself. What you hear is a nice little snap as the blade opens, and when closing you also hear a little snap as the lockbar pushes over to engage the small hole in the blade with the ball inlet in the lockbar. When it is closing the blade is tight and very smooth throughout the entire arc, and does not have any movement in any direction upon being closed, just like when it is opened. I usually like more resistance in my locking bar, the SR-1 has plenty, and gives me that tightness I want. Though we expect what I have described above, you can sometimes get knives that do not exhibit these traits, and I'm not talking just about "cheap" knives either. The making of these knives have a lot of care taken and are surely the pride of the employer and employee's!
I also want to mention how the blade grinds are perfect and symmetrical on both sides, and the edge is a razor. The convex grind is really good, and the blade just slices, and slices through the different materials I've tried it on. In closing on the subject of craftsmanship, LionSteel definitely has it in spades and takes a backseat to nobody!

As far as a change in this model, the only thing's I would like to see, and I say this about most of the finer knives I own, is to have an XL model, something about 4.0 - 4.25 inches in blade length, keeping everything else the same. Again I say that about many knives in the 3.5 - 3.75 inch blade length range, and this is NOT a smear on this knife as it comes. An additional thing I would like to see would be a couple of different blade shapes; clip point/bowie point, a reverse tanto ( like the one on my BM810 Contego--love that blade style!), are just a couple. Lastly, I think this knife would look awesome with some handle inserts, like the different woods you see on the CRK Sebenza.

Ok, there you have it. Anyone wants to chime in about the craftsmanship, or changes you would like to see, go at it.

I was very impressed with mine, but it was simply larger than I preferred to carry. I'm really looking forward to the smaller version and I hope it's offered with a bead blast finish on the handle.

SR1 mini:

Inlays would be either be very expensive or disrupt the wavy milling pattern of the handle.

If anything I´l like to see a slightly more pointy blade. Slightly larger radius of the belly and a bit shorter straight part of the edge.
Maybe slightly less tension from the lockbar and a bit bigger cutout on the opposite site.

I have to admit that closing the SR1 one handed is difficult to me.

For the opera I´d like to see a redesigned handle that covers the corner of the blade in the closed position and a few more unusal natural handle materials.
Blonde horn, ram horn, fancy ironwood burl. stabilized colored bone etc

Good idea's Hans. The handle would really need to be "flattened" out for inlays, but I think it would look good. I wouldn't mind seeing more of a spearpoint blade with a top swedge.

Never hurt's to dream a little, but if nothing was done to the SR-1, it would still be one of the most awesome knives in my collection!

Nothing wrong with dreaming. That's how most of these blades came into being. The only left-handed frame lock I own happens to be made by LionSteel (DPx HEST 2.0) and while I know it is made for a specific client, I would love to see the idea of a left-handed version creep into their own production.

Even if it is only a limited run.
